hi there i am wanting to change the gearbox oil in my 3.2 manual boxster can anyone tell me what oil will i need and wear do i put it in all so wear is the drain hole to let the old oil out thank byron hope someone can help

Hi, I thought the general rule about changing gearbox oil is - don't, unless there's a good reason like having just rebuilt the gearbox. Maybe that advice is out of date now, though.

I've just changed the oil in my 97 2.5 it's combined with the diff oil. it's a 75/90 GL5 ( for cars without LSD ie. all Boxsters ) .The job entails removing the strengthening bars, aluminium under tray, etc, filler plug and drain plug.Drain old oil replace drain plug and refill untill oil flows out of filler plug ( 6 speed boxes only) .Refit filler plug and replace all under tray etc. or take car to local independant ! rgds DF

Think you will find that you fill the box until the oil is 10mm below the filler plug hole and you use a piece of bent wire to make a rough guide of 10mm - If you fill until it drips out you have overfilled it.

3 litres is about correct

If it is a six speed box you fill till it flows out, if it is a five speed box the level should be 11mm below fill plug . 6 speed 2.8 ltrs 5 speed 2.25 ltrs !
