Gearbox Whine

Hi Guys,

I notice a small whining noise initially at about 3,000rpm coming from the car. Tried to see if I could locate it, but all I can say that, it does appear to be from the engine or gearbox. Tried turning stereo up, but too much rubbish on the news at the moment.

Comes in at cruising speeds on motorway and even in high gear at low speeds you can still just about hear it. Drop it into neutral & disappears. Heard it first on Friday & not used car all weekend until today & still there.

Never heard it before, but it is definitely there. But it is not too loud at moment, but does anyone have any ideas what it could be??????????????
