gearlever springs

I've been out of 911 ownership for a few years so a bit rusty on things, but shouldn't there be a sprung bias on the gear lever towards the 3rd / 4th gear change? If there should, then mine's not got it, which brings me to the next point, how easy is it to fix. I am fairly handy mechanically so should be able to sort it if I know how.

Greetings
My car is a '85 coupe and there is no central sprung bias on the lever, 'Cept of course trying to get into the 5th and reverse plane. I'm not sure, of course, whether there actually should be.
However if your going to tackle the LITTLE jobs I would difinately recommend the "Bentley" published service book that HQ flog. I found it very usefull although it is mainly for American spec. cars but it certainly is close enough. Unless you prefer to buy the proper PORSCHE manual's that cover that car at around £500 upwards!! Bargain.
Good Luck
