Gearstick Options

I bought one of those and put it on. I found it very difficult to get a properly acceptable end result mainly because when you try and put the plastic plug in the top (with the gear layout on) it is very hard to get equal tension on the leather all the way round.

Try as I might I always ended up with a slight ruck somewhere.

It was ok but then I bought a new one from ebay. I thought it was what I had but a rather better attempt but when it arrived it was a hand stitched leather affair which I really like. Only cost a fiver too!

I bought a refurbed leather gearknob with gaiter from Prestige Parts on an exchange basis and was happy with the quality.

Had to send first one back though, as there was not quite enough leather in the gaiter to allow you to fit it and still select all gears without it pulling away from the centre console.

Around £40 exchange I think

I bought one from Porscheshop. It's a big saggy around the lever (I didn't use any glue, so that's probably why). Otherwise it's good quality.
Remember to replace the rubber boot - this makes a huge difference to making gear selection feel more precise and to the lever centralizing better. Quieter too! (my old boot had splits).

That Shop that sells Porsche parts isnt cheap, other specialists are selling them cheaper. Their black will be OK, all other colours wont be. There are plenty on ebay for £19.95

+1 for Prestige Parts - not cheap but excellent quality. Went for the exchange option too which fitted perfectly without the problem Nick experienced. Also the only place I could find it in Linen colour, which I rather like(even if others don't)
