Gearstick Sloppy

Hi All
In my S2 i find that my gear stick is very sloppy [ for want of a better phrase]...
I believe that a bush is needed to be replaced .??
Is this the one under the gear stick .???
Is this the bush easily accessable + can they be purchased easily.????

hi

you will probably have to replace the gear stick as well as the bush at the bottom, there is a bar that is fixed to the gear stick held on by a circlip if you remove that bar the bolt that is one the gear sick should be the same thickness all the way along it i bed your will be a oval shape thus making the gear stick sloppy

i am not the best at explaining things so hope this helps

You can replace both the socket (I think it is) at the bottom of the lever and the brass bush and pin without replacing anything else - not that I've done it personally but there are many here who have

Dave,
I would change the gearstick and bush. The lug on the gear stick which connects to the gear linkage shaft which runs from the gear lever to the gearbox wears probably more than the plastic bush. The bush is located under the oval fixing which is held in place by 2 bolts. It is all very easy to do and not time consuming.

The gear linkage at the box is also prone to wear so, this should be a phase 2 exercise if you are still not happy with the change of bush & gear lever.

Also....give well known independant Jon Mitchell a call at http://www.9xx.co.uk/

He has developed a replacement linkage that has a stronger bush under the gear lever. I haven't tried it myself but there have been good reports on Titanic

Ta Folks
I have got a 944racing short shift kit to fit to the gear box [ at some time]
but just wanted to know about the gear stick end for now ....

Thanks a lot.....
