Gen 1 & Gen 2 differences
- Thread starter DRDT
- Start date
I'll list what I can from memory and I'm sure others will add!
Gen 2 has 385bhp as against 355 with the DFI engine and integrated dry sump
Has the option of PDK
Has PCM 3.0 with touchscreen/audio interface/bluetooth
Does not "bob" at all on uneven roads (well, maybe a little bit!)
Option of dynamic cornering lights
Having owned both I'd take the Gen 2 every time (with PDK, PSE and Sport Chrono) Happy hunting![]

The Gen 2 C2S is an incrementally better car than the Gen 1 imho but they are not worlds apart
By what you enjoy driving the most[]

however Gen2 is by its nature a more modern and developed car having nearly 4 years of advances on the Gen1.. nothing wrong with the Gen1 if that opens the door to ownership.

Gen2 is for sure the better car in terms of technological advances and on-paper statistics however that doesn't make earlier models any less fun or significantly less capable on the road IMO. As said, Porsches development is very incremental so differences each time are subtle but effective enough to tempt people into trading up. I mean, no one would ever say a 993 Turbo (now some 15yrs old) wasn't worth owning as it "only" had 400(ish) BHP and no touch screen sat-nav, sports chrono, PTV or PDK. It was an amazing car then and still is today.
I was driving a Caterham R300 on Friday around Anglesey circuit and on paper you might think it's a bit rubbish (only 200ish BHP, no 4wd, no ABS, no PTV, PSM, VTG, PDK....in fact, no roof, no windscreen and no doors !!), but on the track OMG [][][] I was much quicker and had much more fun in that than in my Turbo around same track last year. So my point is, more driver aids doesn't always = better car to drive.
Pls don't get me wrong, I would gladly have a Gen2 if I had the cash but would never say older, less equipped cars are any less fun or significantly less capable. In the end, it all depends on your budget and I would always recommend buying the latest, best model you can afford at the time as depreciation means you may be keeping it for some time (is what I did also). G1,2,3 or whatever, it will be fantastic as it's a 911 !
Yesterday a friend brought up his Gen 2 997 C4S and when we put my Gen 1 997 Turbo alongside the external differences were slight as the Turbo has different front and rear PU's anyway. The "ordinary" 991 seemss hardly different enough externally for most people to tell the difference particulary Alan and Gary who are moving so fast.
Now when does the 991 Turbo arrive? I like my Gen 1 Turbo too much to get a Gen 2 even the S so I agre with Gary and I am not biased either!! (also no cash!)
I reckon you have at least a couple of years to save up Michael![]ORIGINAL: fireblade

Lots of good info in the file
Yes at least two years but I will be retired then and have even less cash!
If you or anyone else is in France on 29th, 30th July we have two days on the track at Le Mans and we can always squeeze in another couple of cars. Especially Turbos! Not quite as interesting as Gary's tours but still lots of fun.
Cheers

Sadly I think the actual car will be more Panamera looking than 911.
