Gen 2 991 Turbo S: Strange creaking / groaning noise from suspension

Hi,

A couple of times now this... After using the axle lift and allowing it to lower a strange creaking sound emanates from somewhere under the car. Sounds like an old galleon when going over undulations.

It's back at the opc again being looked at.

Maybe something needs grease but the sound is very un-Porsche like.

Anyone else heard of this?

Thanks,

Simon

I got my 991.2 in April and it's got to have a suspension strut of some sort because I constantly hear a squeeking from the rear of the car like a very dry shock absorber or similar. It sounded like something banging on the engine cover... Hope they have diagnosed it correctly. I know this is changing the subject but can you turn off your comfort settings? I've already posted a thread on this subject but not many 991.2 around yet?

Noise caused by a front shock absorber. OPC has ordered a new one from Germany.

Now the wait.

Simon

The shock for mine is on back order from Porsche so hope it's not too long either... A month so far.

This goes on..

OPC fitted the shock. Noise cured. They were about to repatriate me with the car on a trailer.

OPC then noticed a rattling in the dash. New PCM frame needed. One ordered. It arrives next week.

It's good they pay attention to detail but these problems on a new car? It's been with them now for about 3 weeks.

I have no issue with the OPC who are excellent. Just find it a bit annoying the probs are there in the 1st place. Ho hum.

Hi Simon.
Don't despair mate.

The new Focus RS Mk3 is having quite a few problems. I appreciate this car isn't in the same league as your Porsche mate but at least the dealer are on their mettle !

Happy motoring bud

Hi, another update:

OPC said car's sorted & then they sent it back on a transporter. Usual thing.

It'd been with them over a month. This was a new 911 Turbo S I bought from them in April/May this year.

Car was unloaded at my place and the transporter fellow pointed out a couple of scratches on the passenger door sill & said the stainless scuff plate on the driver side was, well, scuffed.

The scratches are well evident and can be felt using a finger nail. Less so the scuff plate but he has keener eyes. He explained that he'd pointed out the marks to the customer service person prior to loading it on the trailer as part of the inspection to show on his sheet. However that person wasn't interested & didn't go out to see what he'd noticed.

I didn't buy the car like that and the marks weren't there a month ago when it went back. So yet again it's going back on a transporter to have that little lot fixed. How are they going to fix them? They're not going to fit a new sill so they're going to rub it down. Work done in this month: New front nearside shock, PCM all dismantled, new PCM frame fitted, re-assembled. Next week: scratches to be rubbed out. I'm going to get a 2nd hand car back when it's done.

Feel rotten moaning on about this but the new car ownership glow is gone & am wondering if I can tell'em to politely keep it.

Just thought i'd get this off my chest.

Any advice on where I stand with the dealer would be appreciated. Sorry, this is a real bore.

Don't despair Simon.

Looking on the positive side, you've got a cracking car that's a privilege and pleasure to own and drive, even though you are having a couple of relatively minor difficulties - it happens sometimes. [;)]
Once resolved you will no doubt enjoy the car as intended. Doesn't seem to be enough to allow you to rescind the purchase, but your PC appears to have fallen short. Maybe a word or two with the Dealer Principal might appease things or even drop a line to Porsche Cars MD, Chris Craft if you're feeling really aggrieved.

Hopefully, all will soon be fine. [:)]
Regards,

Clive

Hi Clive,

Thank you.

You are spot on I reckon. I'm being a bit of a prima donna (or whatever the term is). No one else at home understands or gives a fig.

Thanks,

Simon

I sympathize with you. I'm frustrated with mine, took delivery the same time as you, need a software update re pcm, new shock which has taken over two months to get hold of, and a problem with lack of autostart that does not look like will EVER (Porsche customer services completely uninterested, just said they would log problem.. refused to look into it) be resolved. In vehicles of this price don't expect these sort of silly probs. Bought a new mini beginning of year, no probs and technically (software wise) superior. Shame because otherwise it's a sheer joy.
