My new car is great and generally living up to all expectations. However the reception for Radio 4 is appalling with lots of hiss in the background.Tuned into 93.5 so correct wavelenght for my area. Other commercial stations dont seem to bad. Does anybody have experience of this problem. I will be taking the car into the OPC next Monday to pair up my crackberry and will raise this issue with them.

Car has only done just over 100 miles now and it is extremely difficult to keep the revs down! She is so much more responsive than my gen1 C2 cab. Also noticed that going over speedbumps is not so disagreeable - seems that the suspension has been tweaked quite a lot.

Engine /exhaust sound terrific from inside the cabin even with roof up. I am now thinking that a sports exhaust is unecessary.

Does anybody know if there will be an engine upgrade on this range?

PDK is a quantam leap from previous tiptronic.

good to hear youre enjoying the new car jonathon[;)]

are you working a redeye shift or just cant sleep???!!!(excitement of your new car)

Not had too much time to drive over the weekend and Dyllan, I am an insomniac not a red-eye worker. Cant drive her as having a few days off in Jersey. They sell Porsches here but not allowed to do more than 40mph - how bad is that!
Will start to do some serious driving next week but this is my "play car" and when weather is bad will not use it.

You're a better man than me then mate - I have to drive mine everyday! Makes it all worthwhile!!!

Now done 200 miles in my Cab. Great sound, but will go for the sports exhaust;

Faults so far: Squeeky brakes and rt hd washer misses the screen. Going in on Friday.

Early days but don't think I will like the new PCM. Many of the facilities of the previous are gone and I suspect they have bought a new system rather than improve the old. I could not even put the house number in today, let along a six figure post code. Memory stick music through the USB is brilliant. I have 250 virtual CDs in the car!

Love PDK.

Radio reception ok, but the rest of the PCM is not intuative.

Love the looks, especially Aqua. My friends today said it looks better than my Ferrari 360.

Road noise on 19" alloys is bad.

Getting about the same mpg as my Cayman S. That's good.

Derek

Like you I think Aqua is fantastic and everybody who has seen it agrees.

Faults so far : poor reception on radio especially Radio 4! Noted a small cut in the side window air vent (on dashboard) and will show it to the OPC when I go in next week.

I suspect the exhaust note on the C2 is different to the C2S and for the moment am quite happy with not having sports exhaust.

Does anybody know about the power upgrade and if it will be available on PDK cars.

From the little I have driven my car it is sensational.

Shame if the "enhanced" PCM ends up a downgrade for some (I heard it came from a VW-owned manufacturer but don't know for sure) as I don't think the Gen 1 version is too bad - main problem for me has been the map reliability: is the new one still using a DVD system with infrequent updates at some cost, or have they listened to customer feedback [:D] and introduced a software based solution which can be updated at the next service, all within the price of the warranty?

Yes, I think it came from Seat. Sadly, but now that I have used the system a lot more I am beginning to think it really is a retrograde step. I went into my OPC today to get a second opinion, but they merely agreed with my comments:

1. Cannot put in a full post code.
2. Cannot even put in house numbers for some addresses, but I could in the previous system for the same address!
3. Cannot view destination to check it is correct.
4. Now no speed warnings on the PCM.
5. Bluetooth phone only reads phone sim card not phone memory. My Garmin at £150 can.
5. Cannot fully personalise trip function.

On another note, I took the Cab in for a bad brake squeal (having been told an easy fix was to change the pads). Now I am told that yes it has a bad brake squeal, but they will have to wait to see what Porsche do about it. Anyway, they have no pads!

Moreover, I was told, both verbally and in writing, that the sports exhaust would be available in Nov. Now it appears it will not come until May 2009!

I told them that all this is totally unacceptable on a brand new car costing over £80K

I read that the PCM is from a completely different manufacturer than the previous one..

Why on earth did Porsche not improve the old one? Or if they wanted to start again, at least take Tom Tom/Garmin technology. Personally I don't really want something out of a Seat. No wonder some people prefer a £100 Halfords thing stuck in their windscreen.

Porsche never made the old one... they just bought it in..

Your question is similar to one I have asked about why they are changing the makers of the Boxster ?
Not to save money and increase profits.... surely not...[&:] [;)]

I suppose its what the manufacturers of the units were prepared to give Porsche, both as a service and as a financial benefit.. []
I for one never spotted the issues you've mentioned in the short time I played with it, however I will be sure to check when I next go near one..

Derek - here was me thinking this should be the latest and greatest...

Are there any key benefits that you see in this incarnation of PCM?
Is a touch-screen useful, or even usable, when hammering along in a sports car?
Can you advise whether the system is DVD or otherwise for maps - it sounds like they are using a different map provider if certain houses no longer feature as specific addresses.

In general it seems to me that Porsche continue to lack focus on customer requirements/feedback - looking at it from their side I guess they have determined this is unnecessary. A sports car offering with sports exhaust, for example, should be an upfront offering in my view, if not standard. Is this something to do with noise pollution that other manufacturers, e.g. italian, are ignoring perhaps?

Well the new system is HD based, so is quicker, has a clearer screen and I hope easier & cheaper to update, but that said, the map is confusing at times. As for the touch screen, my screen already is getting dirty from fingerprints so I tend to use the button/knobs where possible.

Yup, I think it terrible that the sports exhaust (not rocket science) is delayed, not just from launch to November, but now a year after launch. Not acceptable.

Pity really as the car is fantastic and personally I strongly advise on PDK, it is quick and so very inutative. It certainly adds to driver involvement and not detracts. Surely the way to go. If you move the gear lever the car knows you need clutch, so why bother with a pedal?
