Gen 2 - PSE - Finally taking the plunge

Well, after test driving a AMV8 and R8, the Porsche is the one to stick with...

I decided not to go the GT3 route and pulled my deposit as priorities in life mean I must purchase a house in London, once my house in Oz sells...

So, as the Gen 2 is coming up to a year old, it's time she was treated. Booking her in for fitment of the PSE, managed to get a price of £1900 from a franchised OPC. The non-franchised OPC's will not discount one bit, even with my membership.

Waiting on the call to get her booked in and looking forward to the new sound when it arrives...

The brown plug removal will be happening as soon as I take delivery ;-)

Cheers

Mark, pleased to see you've seen sense [;)]

I was chatting (and possibly looking at the R8 [&o]) how did you come to the 997 result in the end??

Don't do it, my boy. Join AA (Audiholics Annonymous) and save yourself for a 991!

LOL @ Clive's response... always the joker ;-)

Gary, to be honest the AMV8, great looker, plenty of attention but the drive was dull.

The R8 I though would have stolen me away from my 997. I arrived at the Audi dealership and this white R8 greeted me. It looked and looks fantastic, a lot better than the 997 IMHO.

Went for a hour long test drive with a great sales guy. The car, like the AMV8 got plenty of attention, the interior was a nice place to be, the sound was fantastic. The thing that let it down for me was the gear change, I just didn't get on with the open gated box.

The R8 had 800 miles on it, the gear stick was already scratch and looked grubby.

Getting back in the 997, it felt tighter, more ergonomic and a precision machine. I apologised to her and promised I wouldn't be letting her go unless a second hand Gen 2 GT3 came along ;-)

Car booked in for tomorrow at Mid Sussex, will attempt to post some sound clips next week.

Cheers

I'm sure you will enjoy the experience of driving the car with PSE fitted. If you would like to overide the PSE 20-40 mph without having to remove the plug permanently you could install a switch in the ash tray. This allows the PSE to still be switched from inside the car but overcomes the 20 -40 mph cut out.

Here is the bracket and switch I made up..

After installation ( replace the existing insert with the switch)

Hi Berty,

I'll be removing the brown plug as I did on my Gen 1 on a permanent basis (albeit reconnected every month to exercise the valves). The only time the plug went back on was a trackday around Bedford on the Gen1. ;-)

Bring on the noise!!!

Cheers
Mark
