Gen 2 Turbo Cab v Audi R8 V10 Spyder

Interesting to see how the Top Gear test compares to the 5th Gear one. I wonder if the Stig will take Clarkson out for a "spin" as Needell did to Plato.

In that case, it'll be the Audi all the way............. [&:] Regards, Clive

Even though, in his heart of hearts, he knows...

Whilst loyal to our brand, I drove a white v10 for a week a couple of weeks back and it was a great car, good grip, good noise and it received positive reactions from other motorists in traffic, audi have made a good leap here from the old v8 version. the cab is much nicer than the coupe IMHO

But you know Clarkson’s all about the powaaaahhhh … and whilst the Audi’s no slouch surely it won’t hold a candle to the Gen 2 Turbo’s massive acceleration?

The new Gen 2 Turbo is clearly a fantastic tool, but the familiar, understated looks, and restrained engine noise, will probably be overshadowed by the Audi V10, which makes a stronger statement. Also, think the Porsche Turbo Cab demonstrator is a manual, with modest spec. Add to that JC's prejudices and we can no doubt expect the same dismissive attitude that he showed the Boxster Spyder last week. Shame, because the new Turbo is probably the most accomplished 'everyday' supercar in the world - especially with the benefit of two rear seats. Bet it's also faster around the TG track.

Hmm! This Club member believes that Clarkson does not have sufficient driving skills to enable him to truly examine the extent of the capabilities of either car to the point where we would give no credence to his observations, despite his "known" bias? Discuss!

Based on watching the show, I personally think Clarkson's car control skills are probably good enough to put most of us on here (well, those of us that don't regularly track our cars) to shame.

I agree but he hates 911's with the engine in the 'wrong place' so the outcome is probably the most obvious thing this year other than England playing as useless as always in the World Cup. If Ladbokes would take bets on which he would choose I'd have my house and every single thing I own on the Audi[8|] So what will be the obvious statements he makes? 1. Engine in wrong place 2. Looks like a squashed Beetle 3. Plain and ugly. Designers fell asleep 4. etc .....

5. the lack of noise...... Hmmm... don't think I'll take you up on the bet Jason but the earlier link to the You Tube vid does give us some hope![:D] Anyway, Tiff liked it which is good enough for me and the expression on Plato's face was priceless (as pointed out elsewhere on here)

And even if the Porsche does trounce the Audi in every test and comparison they throw at it he's still got the "So there you have it...our Top Gear top tip is the worst car here is the best. And on that bombshell...." It is great entertainment.

they've both suffer from the same problem - lack of roof. Serious sports cars have lids.

Er...have you seen some of the top cars racing round La Sarthe in the 24 Hr races? - I think they consider those cars "serious" sports cars[8|]....... (but I do like coupes [;)] )

No its just that he was so impressed with the Gen 2 GT 3 he drove he has changed his mind about Porsches. Pity they dont have a better balance in the programme with say 30 mins of cars and 30 mins entertainment. Last night was 10 mins of cars and 50 mins of caravan rubbish

r8 is beautiful . However it lacks heritage and the blackpool lights on the front will look tacky in a couple of years. The porsche is a 40 year old perfectly smoothed pebble . Clarkson refuses to accept the Porsche so to be fair he shoud not review it at all, as he goes in with a negative attidude. May would be the prefect person to review the porsche as Hammond owns one and loves them.

Both of Clarkson's co-presenters own Porsches - May has a Boxster. You would think there might just be something good about them...?

hiya, didnt james may also own a 3.2 carrera? seen on his own show about scalectric etc! cheers jason p
