Gen 3 Cayenne

My Dealer Principle and his Service Manager have just returned from Leipzig full of praise for the new Cayenne. Of course they would say that, but they truly were impressed with the looks. It is very different from the old one and the difference is greater in the flesh than what we have seen in photos. Sadly they did not get the opportunity to drive the Hybrid. Maybe we should wait a while before buying that. But I look forward to May 27th.

This is what he said:

Hi Derek

New car is stunning in the flesh and certainly makes the competition look very dated now. It looks smaller which gives it a very sporty look, yet is in fact larger!

Interior is similar to Panamera and is of a very high quality.

Drives very well and again has a much more sporty feel about it

Hi Derek

I have seen the new Cayenne at this year Geneva Motor Show in March 2010 & I would say its the best Cayenne built & I think it should sale very well & yes the switch gear does look like the Panamera range.

Yours Kevin.

Derek,
Pleased your dealer rated the new Cayenne cos I'm looking forward to mid June when I do a factory collect.[:D] Mine is meteor/black and on 20's but no tv!
Regards, Mike.

Also saw it at Geneva and, yes, it does look much better. Not stunning (few Porsches are), but a big improvement - it has finally shed the 'ugly stick' reputation. Although, IMO, the big gaping grilles on the new Turbo aren't entirely successful.

Interior is superb and the quality and detail, throughout, are very impressive.

The Hybrid is very interesting with some useful tax advantages, but too expensive. Think the new Diesel is going to be the most sought after model - excellent performance/economy claims.

Mechanical diffs now replaced with clever electronic systems and tyre options.

Extensive options list (pushes prices up), but should be one of the very best SUVs on the market.

Hi

I have been invited by Porsche GB to test drive the new vision at the Porsche Driving Experience at Silverstone on Tuesday 22nd June at 1.15pm.

Have anyone else got the same invite & I'm going the my dealers launch night next Wednesday 26th May at 7.00pm.

Yours Truly Kevin.

My OPC is launching next week (27th), but I might get to see one tomorrow (Friday) [:D]

Sadly my day at Silverstone is not until the 16th of July, though I will drive one before then.

Why does the title say Gen 3? Surely this is the only all new model since the original?

Granted there was a mid-life facelift, but I've never seen the new one referred to as Gen 3 before.

I was at Mid sussex OPC yesterday and Bruce kindly let me through to the work shop where they were PDI'ing their turbo demo ready for launch day,

What a lovely car, sits nice and low on its wheels the cabin is beautifully designed and finished. Gone are the slightly awkward proportions of the MK1.

Oliver Maybe it is because they had a bit of a facelift a couple of years back but i would not say that
warranted a Gen 2 badge

at the launch at hatfield last tuesday they were introducing it as the GEN 2 cayenne,.as often is the case derek is on to the next model before most of us have even seen or tried the "latest"model[:D]

Yes, of course you are right.

By the way...

The Hybrid is delayed .... apparantly at midnight it starts itself and wakes eryone up. It also only manages 1.5 miles on electric power.
Sand White is so popular that there is a big delay.
The parorama roof is now available for July build.
Air suspension and 18" wheels are the most comfortable option.
At last the rev counter is in the middle.

It really is stunning!

Hi Kevin,
Will be at PSEC also on 22 June after your slot at 15.05-meanwhile off to Leipzig tomorrow to fetch my new Cayenne, so will be able to tell you about my impressions of the 900 odd mile drive home.
See you then. Regards.

Best of both world's![:D]

I had an extended test drive today in the diesel Cayenne. Coming from a 911, here are my initial thoughts:

Points for:

1. It is big! Loads of room.
2. Very smooth ride on comfort setting.
3. Very economical for its size; I got 38 mpg.
4. Loads of low down torque; great for overtaking.
5. Very upmarket inside.
6. Stop/start is much smoother than a Panamera.
7. Park distance great. Much better than 911.
8. Lots of car for the money.
9. Better for pot holes than a 911!

Against.

1. It is big! Very big.. a problem down my lanes, but something I can live with.

2. However, I will have problems parking it at Court and for economic reasons it is supposed to replace the Mini.

3. It is big! Very big. Just about squeezes into my garage by the proverbial gnats whisker, but only if I fold the mirrors. Moreover, I have to get out the passenger side as the garage also houses a Ferrari. It definately needs the wheel arch protectors and it would have to stay out if I returned in the dark. The jury is out on this significant fault. I suppose most owners leave the vehicle outside, but that is not my style.

4. The cruise control operates differently that all other Porsches. With a 911/Boxster one moves the stalk until the speed is right. In the Cayenne it changes the speed demanded on the dash. Hence, once you release the stalk, because of lag in the system, the car continues to accelerate until that speed it reached. This is not a problem once you know that, but it caught me out. I released it at 50, and the car then continued to accelerate to 75!

5. Colours are limited at present.

6. Full length sunroof not available yet.

Hi All

I visited Silverstone Driving Experince to test the new vision Cayenne in all models & the Turbo was very fast around the handling track & on the kick plate. The vision I was looking forward at testing was the new vision Diesel & the Hybrid. I enjoyed the Hybrid as when you turned it on there was no engine noise but when it went to run off the fuel you heard the cayenne was running. With reference to the Diesel I like it very much & am thinking long & hard about changing my Cayman S to the new Cayenne Diesel at about £52000 all in. With what this cayenne can do off road its hard to belive but at the end of the day not many people take there Cayennes offroad.

Yours Truly Kevin.[:)]
