Gen2 - Universal Audio Interface - ipod/iphone charging issue

If like me you have the Universal Audio Interface (UAI) fitted to your Gen2 997, with a single connector lead, you will find that current generation ipod Nano and iphone are not charged when connected - so you get about 4 hours play out of a Nano before having remove it and recharge elsewhere. []

However, I was informed by my OPC that all new cars are now being supplied with a new cable which has two connectors for the UAI side, which will now charge the ipod or iphone continuously.

The replacement lead is part number 997 612 471 02 and is £20.45 inc VAT. I have ordered one and will confirm if it works OK when I get it. (Don't even go there with the 'why is it not a free upgrade - when the car is only two months old?' question - we all know the stock Porsche reply..)

Perhaps anyone who has just taken delivery of a Gen2, which has this dual connector lead, could confirm that their UAI is charging their ipod/iphone?

I have had exactly the same issue with my wifes VW car..
They blame Apple for moving the goal posts..
Many home Ipod docking stations have the very same issue.!!

At least Porsche have actually come up with a solution where VW have not!! we ended up buying another Ipod (classic) which works fine.

I have a an I touch and my ac adapter for my nano will not work!! So frustrating having to plug the thing into a computer and leave it on. Why they cannot make the leads universal is a mystery.

Like Gary can confirm that my iPod works and charges ok with the single connector lead. It has "frozen" a couple of times though and had to be rebooted (the iPod, that is).

Just to clarify...

This is Apples doing, they changed the charging from Firewire to USB, thus the cable alterations...(and charging voltage)

Sadly other industries are having to circle around them, and they say microsoft play the same silly game!!

Assume you have a 'Classic' ipod - not new generation Nano, etc.?

Yes, but as all the sales literature for the UAI shows the ipod touch/iphone I expected full integration to these devices...

this happens with mine also, im using an older ipod and it freezes quite a bit, i just put this down to it being old, once rebooted its fine for a while... think its a 5th Gen 30 GB

want to to get a new one or use my iphone but didnt bother but hopefully this new cable fixes it (being able to charge a new one that is ):)

happy days

Hi All, just to say I got the same cable as Robert Cox and it also is now working fine with charging Iphone on the go and using it as a bluetooth phone, and also charges on the go the Ipod Nano
