Geometry and tyres

Hi everyone

After having the car for about 3 weeks, it is now settling down very nicely, particularly after a few bits and pieces being done at Autowerke Norwich.

I've been wondering if there's anything I can do with the twitchyness at approx 60-80mph. The front tyres wear a lot more on the inside than outside and there may be a bit of stepping so new tyres may help. Though I noticed in the OPC service leaflet I've got that they can look at the geometry setup for about £250. Have any of you guys had this done?

Cheers,
Alex

Chris Franklin toured a lot of the regions and suggested that he could help with any of these issues.
Obviously depends on your location, but a check over was suggested at £75... now thats alot cheaper than a set of tyres [;)]

Short answer is probably Yes..

I reckon it's worth getting checked every 2 years, but I use mine daily. If your front tyres are wearing on the inside, you don't have enough toe in, or too much negative camber. It the fronts are running parallel or toe-out it will make it twitchy in a straight line. Definitely get it checked and adjusted before you get new tyres. A good indy, as Gary suggests, will be a lot cheaper than an OPC. You can get the alignment specs from the Technical Articles pages.

Cheers for that advice. I've just had a word with Chris Franklin who was extremely helpful and I'll book the car in to him in a few days, I'll post about it afterwards as it might be useful for other newbies like myself....

I had a geometry check done by a local indi for £160; it made a noticable difference to the handling and is a lot cheaper than the OPC price.

Give Andy at Promax Motorsport a call http://www.promaxmotorsport.com/ Nice guys, and Much Much cheaper than OPC.

They did an excellent job on my GT3 RS a few months ago, They did my old GT3 and 993 also, always very pleased with there work and attitude.

Would be a nice run over to them, they will do it while you wait as well.

Regards.......
