Geometry settings

I am advised that my geometry is out. Sounds like it had never been checked since its birth. I haven't had a car with a geometry setting requirement .... is it displaying too much ignorance to ask why the Boxster has this nuance? Sure I am used to tracking, but that is 30 quid and not 6 times that .... Any enightment would be gratefully received!

I have actually found my answer.

Guy in the office has his checked every year, bit of a car buff. Having said that, no one else I have spoken to has a clue. Seems that clipping curbs, speed bumps and stuff like that can through the wheel out of alignment, not just tracking alignment.

You live, learn and get a lot of T Shirts .....

I apologise for exposing my ignorance!

Mike,

The Boxster benefits from good alignment more than most cars because of super suspension set up and weight distribution. Several owners have complained theirs did not drive as well they expected but once the alignment has been set (properly), a big improvment.

Just let me know if you want the slightly more agressive "track day" settings. I love these for the sharper turn in and increase in grip.

Hi Nick
I've had alook at the track day settings on the main Web site and just wondered where they originated from and if there is any adverse wear issue if used in day to day driving

I have the settings on my car - well as I have the 030 I have even more negative camber than as listed. I have done about 10,000 miles with it set up in this manner and I have not experienced any uneven tyre wear to date.

Currently, with a fully bedded in set of the new pattern Continental Contact Sports all round, the car is handling better than it has ever done - even in the damp.

JCB..

Seems mine was way out and the tyres were wearing badly especially on the inside rears .... odd this was not picked up at the MOT in May. I have a pretty picture with a before and after view, the before was virtually all red! The after has one minor red that am assurred is not a problem.

Knowing so little about the subject troubles me, more so when you get a call from the garage and have to make a decision. It wasn't a cheap thing to do, 220 + VAT, but then again it isn't something you'd want to not do given the price of tyres.

The bottom line is that it does feel better and when I get the front tyres replaced I think it will feel a lot better.

Do you actually shell out 220 + VAT plus the track day fees for a scurry around the circuit?

Mention my name.

Money well worth spending. I reckon bi-annually for normal road use, annually for track use. It should get cheaper after the first time as they will not have to spend so long adjusting it. Expect to pay more the first time for 'older' cars as bolts may be seized/rusty.

Bare in mind that Porsches are set up with 5% tolerances and not 10% tolerances like most cars......

Nic also published his revised settings in PP or Forum a while ago.

Trackdays?

I certainly do although I don't have the disposable income to do them too often.

It's the only 'safe' way to get to know your car.

To date - Jurby, Donnington, Silverstone, Modello Park, Castle Combe and the 'Ring'
