Geometry sorted - No more twitchyness at speed

Hi

I posted about a couple of weeks ago about where to have a geometry check done and after 'garyw' suggested Chris Franklin (of Centre Gravity) I booked the car in and promised to post here how I got on.

Since I bought the car privately a month ago it has felt extremely twitchy particularly at motorway speeds which I understood was just a feature of a 911. But after having the geometry checked and re-aligned to factory spec again on Wednesday the difference is incredible, the car now sits superbly on the motorway almost without having to touch the steering wheel, and also feels much more stable at all times. Being in there while it was being done was great, Chris is incredibly enthusiastic and loves explaining everything he's doing which was very interesting.

I wanted to post this because I thought there may be many people like myself out there who didn't really know about the geometry and those who did perhaps thought it was for track day setup rather than for everyday drivers like myself, I hope this is useful.

Pleased it has worked out well for you. Where is Chris based and what was the final cost?

I had the same problem, it got even worse when hammering round the nurburgring... Had the geometry sorted in a local german garage who I have a relationship with and the difference in the car was incredible, took nearly a whole minute off my lap time. Cost me just over £100 but that was a 'cash' deal ...

That sounds interesting. Was the twitchyness you mention all the time, or just when there was a cross wind ? Also, how much and did you travel to them or they come to you?

Guys,

Why not try ProMax MotorSport, In the Milton Keynes, Buckingham area. They just did a cracking job on my RS. They have a New State of the art, 'Hunter' Machine, and there prices start at £79.00 for the basic Job.

Ray Northway told me the other week that he's getting the same Hunter machine installed soon - apparently it's the dogs danglies for setting up geometry.

Does it really make that much difference getting this done?

My C4 is quite twitchy at the front which I thought is how these were, but maybe thats not the case if you really saw a difference. Could I ask what it cost to do?

Chris is doing a tech talk on Tuesday, so if any of you are near Atherstone please pop along. Chris will be more than happy to answer all of your questions.

The workshop is here:

2 Brindley Close,
Holly Lane Industrial Estate,
Atherstone,
Warwickshire.
CV9 2QX.

To answer your questions, here is Chris's website http://www.centergravity.co.uk/
The cost was £75 for the initial setup which shows the current position of the geometry, after completing the adjustment to what I wanted it was £210 inc vat. This may vary I believe.
Chris does travel, he does a lot of track days and events, and does private owners but would charge accordingly. In my case I travelled to him.

I had the twitchyness all the time particularly on the motorway I had to concentrate all the time. It also used to want to massively follow ridges in the road even at 30mph which it doesn't do now.

So, in my case it made a massive difference, just to get it back to factory spec.
