George Thackray's Funeral

I'm sure most of you will know but our dear friend and R18 colleague George passed away suddenly yesterday. I know I speak for us all when I say he will be sadly missed.

I've been to see his widow Diane and his son Jonathan this evening and they have asked that any PCGB members wishing to come, to come in their porsche's behind the funeral car as a 'guard of honour' so to speak as they are adamant thats what he would have wanted, and I for one think they right.

The funeral will be next week but we have no date as yet, i'll post it here as soon as I know. The family have asked me to organise this as they have enough to contend with at the moment, and i'm happy to oblige. So, if you can come and give our friend the send off he deserves, please put your name down here so I can give the family an idea of numbers, and if there is anything else you want to know please P.M me your contact details and I'll gladly ring you back.

many thanks

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy

I will certainly come and would welcome being part of his 'guard of honour' - depending on any clashes with work that I cannot rearrange. As soon as I know the date I will do my best to make sure I get there.

It may be helpful to jog folks memory if you could post a photo of George here on the forum. Many members will recall faces and not necessarily names.

Please pass on my condolences to the family.

Hi Jeremy,
I will come providing the date doesn't clash with meetings already arranged, which I am afraid I can't avoid--the e-bay Porsche is having unreliable starting problems which can be a nuisance, but I may be able to nick the other one -otherwise it's the "touring".
I have already responded to David's e-mail-it is a tragedy & loss of a good guy.

Best regards,
Colin.

Good point peter, sadly I dont have any as George was always the photographer when we ever went anywhere. I've spoken to David Baker this morning who was searching the archives, so maybe David may be able to help.

Hi Jeremy
David sent me this one which I hope will do him justice.

I can now confirm the arrangements for Georges funeral

Thursday 30th June

11.00 Meet at George & Diane 's house to follow behind funeral cars . Postcode is FY8 4RE. Our cars will need to park on Forest drive which is the road adjacent. I'll park Georges 944 and my 911 (red, reg VNT 84) there so please park up behind those.

11.30 Fairhaven Methodist Church

12.30 Lytham Crematorium

There will be a wake afterwards at the Clifton Park Hotel, 299-301 Clifton Drive South.

A specific request from Diane is also that she doesn't want us in suits and ties, she's asked if we could wear our Porsche club t shirts and the likes as thats what George would have preferred.

Finally, I've spoken to David Pope who is the funeral director who is handling the arrangements and he has asked if I could confirm the number of porsches in the escort so he can facilitate parking both at the church and crematorium so if you could please confim your attendance here or drop me a line at heneyj@centuryhealthcare.co.uk I would be most grateful.

kind regards

Jeremy.

Thanks for doing this Jeremy,

As discussed, I would wish to attend and I have also spoken with Dean Easterby who would also wish to pay his respects.

I hope that we can all rally round and give our pal George the send off he deserves.

Jeremy,

At present I can make it-& in the e-bay Porsche provided I get it back from the autoelectricians after Tuesday-otherwise in the Touring.
