Getting a valuation on my 64RS

As my insurance is up for renewal shortly, I thought I should try and get an agreed valuation sorted with them. Their current valuation is based on my original purchase in 2005, and I understand they may have gone up a bit since then... [8|]

My insurers suggested the PCGB 964RS Section organiser would be able to provide a valuation on Porsche Club letterhead paper? Would this be you, Melv? Or have I gt the wrong end of the stick?

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it - as it is definitely not my specialist area!! [;)]

Tim,
Hi, long time no see (last time I think I was spinning at Folly into the hay after one of John Proberts sausage buttties ;-)

My car is going into 9m next week and Marc Clowes is doing a no charge valuation as part of the service.

The club, last time I asked, are not keen on doing them any more for some reason?

Cheers,
Kevin.
PS How's the racing going?

Download the form from the website, under "about pcgb" then "help and advice". It's free to members, and should turn around in a couple of weeks.

Things must have improved then? It took months and lots of calls to the PCGB office to get mine signed!

Go to melv directly.

They have, after much effort! [&o]

Some insurers won't accept the Reg Sec's valuation, others do. I guess the easy way to go is ask Melv to do it, then wait for the Club one as a back-up. It wouldn't be good if a claim was needed and then the insurer argued about the qualifications of the valuer, I believe Steve K is approved by the insurance industry so there is no dispute.

If valuations aren't coming through reasonably quickly, nag the Chairman. It's his job to keep the paid staff doing their jobs properly on our behalf.

A genuine question...

Is Steve Kevlin really expected to accurately know the value of all the different Porsches? Does he scour existing for sale ads, or would he contact Melv (in this instance) to obtain a value which he will then put his 'club' signature against?

Many thanks for any insights.

Short answer is I don't know, I'd suspect decades of experience, full-time within the Porsche world and monitoring the market. The 944 valuations are always pretty accurate, and a bit higher than average. Everything from humble everyday Luxes to highly-modified turbos, or concourse-standard cars, have been very fair.

I've dealt with loads of claims for people who failed to get an agreed-value policy. Some insurers refuse flat-out to deal with me, saying that I'm not qualified to intervene in insurance indusrty negotiations. Others are happy to accept my comments, and adjust a payout in the claimant's favour. I'd prefer people to get an official valuation as a back-up, even if one company says they will accept the Reg Sec's word, just to play safe.

Marc Clowes valued my 64RS last week - he is in touch with what our cars are currently changing hands for, so his valuations are sensible - no doubt my insurers will hike my premium as a result of the increased value []

Melv that's our cycle route and running route. Was out on Sunday before the half marathon. Why did you not pop in for Champagne?

Just back from Cayenne Hybrid launch so a bit tippsy! :O)

And the catering was excellent--being in Scotland, they could not avoid fried mini-haggis portions, but with the Champagne, they went down well [:D][:D][:D]

Thanks for all the input everyone. Melv, will try calling you a bit later on today (Wednesday).

In answer to some of the questions:

Thanks Paul, I hope your £5K offer is way off the mark! Some Ring friends and a few of the speed boys are heading over to the Ring and Spa for the last weekend in July (my 50th celebration). Watching a VLN race on Saturday, then doing public day on Sunday, followed by an Easytrack day at Spa on Tuesday. [:D]

On the racing front, managed to finish third in class and fourth overall last year in the Speed Championship. Started my third season earlier this month with a double header at Anglesey. Corker of a circuit, but with only one other racer in my class, worst I could do was second! Six class 3 competitors at Loton Park last weekend and I managed a PB of 62.1. But not nearly quick enough to catch Ian Wadsworth on a near 61 dead. [:(]
