Hello,
You probably know all this but some tips for you.
When I removed my exhaust for servicing I dropped the whole system complete, all you need to do is undo the bolts holding the system to the heads i.e. 6 nuts and 6 socket head nuts and the 2 straps holding on the read muffler. I bought a special tool to undo the six socket head nuts from type911 for this job.(this tool was a good buy)
Once the system is on the floor I used a small grinder to gring off the rusted nuts and everything pulled apart. My 1983SC had a stainless steel cross over pipe but the connection pipe which slots into in on the passengers side was not and was difficult to extract. I used heat and a lot of twisting force to remove the old connection pipe. If you intend to reuse the original cross over pipe and need a connection pipe you will need to buy a Porsche pipe to fit which is very expensive( over £200 ), or if the cross over pipe is knackered then type911 will supply a crossover pipe with the correct connection pipe in steel at a competitive price, the connection pipe from type911 however will not fit your original porsche crossover pipe. I hope this all makes sence?
The only pipe I has to replace on my 1983 system was the presilencer I bought a Dansk pipe in mild steel from type911 (which I am happy with) with all the necessary gaskets and fixings to recondition the original pipes work.
Look at the type911 web site for a detailed layout of your system and components breakdown.
Cheers
John
