getting the gear knob off

as it says any tips on removal of the factory fit gear knob.... mine needs a refurb -but cant get it off no matter how I try! any tips welcomed - cheers

The ones I have removed from 915 type gearbox just pull off (no screws). They can take quite a bit of force though. Tapping with soft hammer from below usually works.
 
If its a 915 as Geoff says, but use a suitable size open ended spanner that fits around the shaft and butts up to the underside of the knob, then hit the spanner instead of the gear knob, G50 is as Chris says.
 
Ah yes thanks guys... it is a G50 box so chris you have the answer I needed - many thanks!![:D][:D]
 
Have done so - now I see the point of them... always thougt they were a bit flashy before!
