GKN LOBRO CV JOINTS

Evening all.

Has anyone used the GKN Lobro cv joints (stamped 'made in Germany') currently available from various sources? Any bad experiences to report with these parts or this manufacturer? I have just bought a couple to try out on my track motor but not sure what to expect from them.

Upon initial inspection they seem to be o.k. but I have nothing to compare them against other than what I assume to be the originals still fitted on the car (one has just failed at 170000 miles).

I suppose they could be sort of after aftermarket i.e. copies of even more seriously dubious origin - but they appear to be of decent enough quality in what seems to be proper GKN packaging. Having only paid £55.00 each ........ yep I know ........ this is really why I have my doubts about them but........ I have seen others listed for sale as being the identical item at almost triple this price.

Am I right to be suspicious?

I have a trackday coming up soon at Cadwell so methinks I will fit these at the weekend and take a couple of spares along just in case.

Thanks & regards.

Zeusy.

They will be the same as OE fit - i.e. from the same production line and identical to the ones on the car when originally built.

£55 each is about right. I've heard that there is a Ford Scorpio part that is the same dimensionally for about £18 each.

Hi have GKN ones on mine and no problems so far although that is only a couple of hundred miles. I got mine from Design 911 as they were the cheapest I could find for GKN. You can probably find pattern parts cheaper on the internet somewhere but they will be made of cheese.

Got mine from frazerpart - about that price I think. I don't think there's anything to worry about

O.k. Thanks for the input chaps - it sounds like they will probably be fine. Zeusy.

Bit of an update here for you. Had a wonderful blast around Cadwell Park on Sunday - the old tub ran well and with 4 of the said brand new GKN Lobro cv joints fitted there was no noise or vibration coming from the rear. On Saturday morning it had taken us just over an hour to remove both drive shafts, strip them down, fit the 4 new joints c/w gaiters and then refit both shafts back onto the car. A simple straightforward job for once. For someone who can just about dip the engine for oil without assistance I was well chuffed. Blyton Park next month ....... hopefully. [:)]
