PROVISIONAL INFORMATION FOR THE GLIDING & BBQ EVENING 06/07/2011 6.00PM START
After finally pinning down the powers that be at Northumbria Gliding Club, we have come up with the date of Wednesday 6th of July starting at 6.00pm. I appreciate that some may find this start time too early but please note: flying will continue until all of our party have flown (or it gets dark), so if you can not get there until later on this will not be a problem as long as we know when to expect you.
There are 3 options available on the night.
Option 1 is a winch launch and will consist of been pulled up into the air by a winch very quickly. It's an exhilariting 0-60 sub 4 seconds launch, a short flight and brief control of the glider under instruction.
Option 2 is an Aerotow, this is where the glider is towed by a small tug plane to a much higher altitude than the winch. This allows you to have a longer flight smoother climb and for those who dare a taste of some aerobatics if you wish.
Cost of option 1 £30.00 per person & includes BBQ.
Cost of option 2 £50.00 per person & includes BBQ.
Cost of option 3 £5.00 per person, BBQ only for non-flyers. (optional, fetch your own picnic if prefered)
Northumbria Gliding Club advise me that the max number of flights that can be achieved on an evening party is around 14 to ensure all get an enjoyable evening flying, therefore places are limited and will be on a first come first served basis and as such must be pre-booked.
I already have a list of 7 interested members so if you would like to take advantage of this great night out please add your name to this thread, along with your preferred option. A £10 deposit is required for all flyers prior to the event, you can catch me on Sunday 15th May at the Fastlane Show or at June's club meeting.
If you require more info please contact me or go to http://www.northumbria-gliding-club.co.uk/
Address for the club is Currock Hill, Chopwell, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE17 7AX
A few other things to bear in mind; this activity is weather dependant so if flying conditions on the night are poor we will have to reschedule. Access to the club is via a rough farm track which some might not wish to tackle in their prized Porsche. It is passable but care is needed. Unfortunately weight restrictions apply. The maximum weight allowed is 16 Stones.

HI Greg

you can put me down for option 1 please. Peter is abstaining from this one as an ex ATC bod!

Cheers
Julie

A quick reminder that the gliding evening is on this Wednesday night (6th July) from 6pm onwards.

As usual good old British weather playing havoc with the planning of yet another summer event.
Looking at several forcasts every one contradicts the other so here's hoping fingers crossed, eyes, legs. toes etc.
I have decided a cut off point with the Gliding club of 3pm so that you guy's have time to know what the plans are.
Forecasts are now saying rain until around lunch getting better by late afternoon and fine all evening, so let's hope so.
UP TO NOW EVENT STILL ON!
Please feel free to call me for updates throughout the day

A big thank you Greg for organising this it was a great evening.

Not only was the gliding itself good but we all had an excellent chance to socialise, and I love the way you fixed the weather!!

Julie

Thanks Julie, I think everyone seemed to have a great time. What's that they say about the sun always shines on the righteous. We could not have wished for better weather. Unbelievable considering earlier in the day.
Move over Michael Fish. (And I can safely say no hurricanes tonight)[:)]
