glovebox lid

the retaining arm on one side of my glovebox lid is missing, and on the other side the surround is split so the arm sometimes detaches and the lid then swings free.

Does anyone else have this problem and if so, is there a clever fix. I assume the arms cannot be bought new alone without having to buy a lid as well??

I've got the kpporsche (Prestige Parts) glovebox stays and they are very good - better than the originals. From Porsche you have to buy a complete glovebox lid which was over £100 last time I checked []

I was going to say Keith did them, but that's what you're looking at anyway. He used to do them in polished stainless as well if you like bling.

Are they a perfect fit as against the originals? I was concerned that I would have to do a bodge job to make them fit, with which I would not be too keen

They are perfect in so far as you have to install them in the right place yourself after a bit of fabrication.

The original plastic stays are moulded into the lid. When they snap off they will leave a small stump. From memory you simply take off the flocked internal cover, file down the broken stumps and then screw the new stays in to position. If you screw them in the wrong place then obviously the fit will not be perfect. You can adjust them a few mm either way so it's not a big problem

This is a job i've had on my list for some time now and this thread has reminded me to get my backside in gear on it so I managed to squeeze it in today in between babies feeds. The brackets are nicly manufactured pieces but I found I needed to carry out quite a bit of modification to the glovebox lid with the Dremmel over and above trimming the moulded stays stumps. I had to mill small pockets to effectively sink the brackets lower in the glovebox lid to enable the internal cover to seat properly as the brackets stood too proud. Even after the creation of the pockets I found the bracktes still were a good few mm proud but I was able to re-attach the internal cover despite this. The finished article looks fine and the lid doesn't look repaired or modified at all and when the lid is open it feels secure like you could actually use the indented cup 'holders' without the lid falling open under the weight and spilling hot coffee over your passenger. The stays also seem to be splayed apart slightly meaning when you are opening the lid with one hand the lid doesn't fall open under gravity (which is probably what breaks the original stays in the first place) as the new stays bind against the side of the box.

A recommended repair and pukka service from Prestige Parts as usual (i've used them before) but I would say you do need a Dremmel type tool to carry out some minor mods.
