going off boxsters fast

hi folks i just want to share a moan with you.
a few weeks ago i sent my 2001 boxster s tiptronic 27,000 miles in for a rms repair,it turned out to be a split o ring just below the rms, so i got it fixed.
but since iv'e owned the car iv'e noticed that when driving it seems to have a up and down tone , it also seemed to want to get going like lurching forwads, the exhaust was black so it was runing rich, the last few days the check warning light came on, so today it went on the diagnostic computer --the results ==2 lambda (oxygen)sensors in front of catalytic converters on each bank faulty, also air mas sensor faulty.
cost to repair aprox inc vat ect £650 ,as anybody else had this problem i think its bad for a 3 year old car with 27,000 on the clock......... cheers mike

Amost exactly the same thing happened to mine - Went in for anew clutvh & flywheel at 48,000 & 4 yrs. Needed an RMS and when I got the car back it ran really rough - 15mpg and engine warning light flashing - how they did not pick it up on the post service road test I do not know. Turned out to be the 2 lambda sensors - they said it quite often happens when they get disturbed after working on the engine! I have to say that I was a bit dissapointed I have been motoring now for longer than I care to remember and have never had these replaced and then to have 2 go- seems funny to me.

This is the first car I've owned that had them!

There have been one or two reports of these sensors requiring replacement along with one or two wheel bearing replacements and one or two suspension component failures.

It's a bummer when it happens to you but put it in perspective.

RMS aside these are reliable cars.

I had a 2.5 & an S. Both fabulous cars & the only problem I had was a defective door membrane on the S. Otherwise complete reliability.

Obviously it's annoying to have a problem car, but don't be put off. Get out on a track day to get a smile on your face. Well driven Boxsters can embarrass many supposedly faster Porsches.

thanks for the response, went for a test drive around the lakes yesterday she drove great ,also what got on my nerves was when i bought the car the salesman sent it to opc for the 24,000 service it needed both rear wheel bearings doing ,so the firm i bought it off paid for this plus the service.
a few weeks later i went to the opc who had done the service to pick up some new mats that i had orderd,i asked the guy if the car was ok as i had just paid out £33,000 and i was a bit woried,he said that it had faults,so i asked what they were ,he said i can't tell you,i said are they bad he said i can't tell you because of data protection ,i think they wanted me to pay again.
but by saying it had faults it got me going --so i won't be going there again.
it's 930 sunday morning guess what --going for a run and a beacon butty
cheers mike

If, as seems the case, the sensors have gone faulty as a result of work being carried out on the car by the OPC I'd be tempted to try and get some "goodwill" out of them. Seems very coincidental that both should be faulty at the same time on low mileage car.

I haad a problem with the sensors once, all they needed was cleaning. My OPC did it FOC.

i can't tell you because of data protection

I thought data protection was only about people... how can telling you about the history of the car be in breach of the DPA?

It isn't as long no personal details are revealed.
