Gold Track Bruntingthorpe evenings.

BTW I'm off to Donington in the morning - open pit lane - only 20 cars booked
Oh the joys of Craner Curves, one of the best remaining bits of track left in the country. You have fun now.
I agree with you on airfield days generaly but, apparently, Bruntingthorpe has been resurfaced. Come on £69.00, you know you want to []

Just had a brilliant day at Donington, but now I'm completely creamed. In the end there were a total of 8 cars [] and I managed 204 miles on track [] Now I just need to go have a lie down [:-]

Just met Andrew Sweetenham today (first time) at the PCGB trackday at Castle Coombe, wow does his 944 fly along, really impressive.
This PCGB is not open pit lane so the most anyone managed was about 100 miles -- this I found a bit annoying as i like to break the 200 mile barrier if I can. Did this at Donington and Bedford in recent months -- I know that cream crackered feeling well.
all the best

ps have you tried Mallory at all -- I fancy doing one there, saw Goldtrack on 8th June -- any thoughts?
pps managed to break down on the trackday today , broken fuel pump, friend took me to Bristol to buy a new one at 5:00 pm, back to the circuit, fitted it and managed to get home by 8:00pm -- a result

At that time he was only running about 320bhp and was on road tyres - I was on slicks [:-] it just goes to show that the best performance improvement is talent

I have done Mallory before, it's a great fun little circuit which doesn't take too long to learn. Keep an eye on the outer edge of your left side tyres tho - that long Gerrards bend really takes its toll []
I can't make the 8th June - too close to Le Mans
Us hardcore boys will BE at Le Mans on the 8th [8D]

I had heard that the s.l.o.w.e.r. drivers had to leave quite early to make it in time []

Have booked the June 8th trackday at Mallory Park (small reduction to £170 if you subscribe to Circuit Driver magazine) as I am keen to visit this circuit for the first time. Apparently I am guaranteed 5 x 30min sessions so that should get the mileage up a bit.
ps In the Northants area who would you recommend for gearbox work on 944/968, I am toying with the idea of retrofitting an LSD as I am finding this seems to be the big difference between me and the CS's so equiped. Also, who would you use 4 a full alignment check and adjust?
thanks in advance
paul f
ps 968 board a bit quiet so am visiting you guys from time to time.

For 4 wheel alignment I have used http://www.newdustongarage.co.uk/ and am very happy. This is a small local garage to me but they do have the proper computerised 4 wheel equipment (can't remember the make) and have all the standard settings for Porsche. I recommended them to another 944 owner last week and he too was very happy

Hi Paul, we seem to be a bit lacking in Northants itself for a recognised Porsche independant. The closest would be Auto2000 in Bedford. The owner has just retired but it has now been taken over by his chief mechanic. I know a few 944 owners who recommend him, but I'm afraid I can't find any contact details.
Auto 2000 were highly recommended (to me) by another forum-ite with a super clean 911. Their number is 01234 210012 and they're at 24 College St, Kempston, Bedford MK42 8LU.
Thanks for the tip on New Duston Garage Paul, will ring them on Monday as mine needs doing as well.
Cheers, JG

I also know one or three owners (inc. 944 Turbo) who are worth speaking to, to help you "balance" that opinion.

Blimey he's going to be busy with Porsche then as my S2 needs realigning after I recently fitted new shocks all round. When I was in there last year, I spoke to the owner (Richard I think) and he said they do have 2 or 3 older 911 that they regularly service. So they are not strangers to Porsche and certainly not scared of them like some local garages are when you turn up, with much pursing of lips and shaking of head whilst thinking of the £££ signs on their cash register

I am tempted by bruntingthorpe especially if the loose stones have gone.
Tony
Have heard various reports of stones or lack there of. Mr Fern reports that they were still there a few months ago, so it looks like it could be best avoided if you are precious about your paint work.
Now Beaky, on the other hand, has a pebble dash finish as standard so it might be difficult to spot any more stone chips. []

However she did reassure me that Bruntigthorpe have vastly improved their surface by filling in and smoothing out the gaps between concrete and they have bought a proper 'sucking machine' (her words [] ) to clean the surface before each day. Callum has done a few events this year and he has raved about it. Also they are converting the old Jumbo jet into a hospitality suite, so ultimately all signons and refreshments will be in the Jumbo.
Their first day is tomorrow, so I said I'd call again next week to see how it went. She would love to see a group of 944's clustered round the Jumbo with Callums 968 - would make an excellent photo []
