gone and ruined my bezels!

I had some aluminium bezels fitted to my 993 - the ones that fit on the inside edge of the existing bezels (Gert used to stock).

Anyway I don't like them now so have taken them off - and of course it's at this time I realise I shouldn't have used super glue to stick them on! hmmm.

So to make matters worse my adhesive remover that I though wouldn't remove any paint has gone and done just that - and not removed all the glue to boot!

So basically I've knackered my existing dial bezels - all of them.

Does anyone know where I can get replacements? - I don't want the whole gauge, just the black outer surrounding covers...plus the rubber ring while at it as these have seen better days too.

EDIT: I should add - I only want originals or original style, I've had it with these fancy after market bezels.

So that's the end of DIY attempts too.

Cheers.

Why not rub 'em down with some superfine wet & dry sandpaper (should remove the superglue), then coat of spray primer (flat it when dry), then nice new coat or two of satin black. All avaliable as cheap acrylic spray cans from your local motor factor & cost no more than 15 quid tops. Just an idea? Cheers

Thanks Roddy, the problem is it's my cak-handed lack of DIY skills that got me in to this mess in the first place.

If my Indie can't source any I'll print your suggestion off for them - thanks again.

Kenny

Read your post earlier and could help but have just been on the FVD web site
http://www.fvd.de/frame.php?m=2 looking for exhausts when I came across black instrument bezels at 12 Euros a piece. The price is the same for speedo, tacho and smaller gauges. Couldn't see the rubber grommetty things that they sit in but they may be there somewhere, it's a huge site.

All the best, Clyde

Excellent! Thanks Clyde.

That looks a perfect plan B I think - they look as if they go over the current ones rather than replace but that will be fine if I can't get gold of any replacements. I'll ring FVD anyway as I've bought stuff from them before - and I'll ask about them.

Cheers man.

By the way Kenny, if you decide to clean out the speedo if it's got dust etc in it (like mine had), remember that the clear glass is in fact nice soft, very scratchable plastic. Also check that your needle is in the right place before you reassemble, or your car will seem faster/slower than before! It should be between the first two little white notches at rest. My car was 10mph slower at all speeds until I realised I had moved the needle during reassembly! Now spot-on after using sat-nav to confirm accuracy. Cheers

Hi,
My 2p worth:

Maybe just paint the alloy bezels and stick them back on
( maybe use silicon / bath sealant type fixing - as pretty firm, and can be removed bit more easily than super-glue - but use sparingly!

Hammerite spray 'satin' black.

Lots of coats - but put on very gradually - so you aim to build up the layers slowly - that way you'll get a nice, flat run-free finish.

Very easy to do, just make sure you shake the can well before each use,

keep it indoors so it is not cold, give yourslf lots of space, plenty of newspaper - and alway do a test spray ( just quick squirt ontop the newpaper ) to make sure the nozzel isn't blocked - otherwise u can can a dollop / drip of paint []

Hammerite can's only about £6 [:)]so not much to lose!

T[&:].

Send them to a company in london called SPEEDY CABLES - they'll supply & fit new ones for about a tenner each.

Cheers Al. Got them sorted at Strasse in the end.

The lads there took them apart and resprayed the bezels....as good as new!
