I have been offered a 2001 996 C2 (Facelift, 3.6 etc) with 48k miles on it for £35k.
Car is pretty standard - no options except 18" carrera's.
Its got a full OPC history at AFN & has just had 4 new tyres.
Its met blue with full grey leather.

A good buy ?

Snap it up ... that price usually reflects 1998/1999 year 996's.
Get it checked out though, (finance, accidents, service etc) as the low price may be reflected by its provenance.

Julian sounds like a very good buy to me, particularly if it is a facelift.
I would phone around a few OPC buyers (numbers in the Sunday Times) & get them to give you a trade price on it, that's what I always do. Also BE SURE YOU GET A FULL OPC CHECK on the car (it's only about £150) cheap isn't always best, accident damage etc etc. But if it's genuine it sounds something of a bargain, particularly if you don't do many miles. Let us know how you get on.

Yes it sounds too good to be true.

Sometimes cars are damaged in an accident and not recorded and then repaired to a very high standard. This could be an example of one. Also I have heard stories of people having recorded damaged cars and somehow getting them off the register by putting them through an inspection.

Personally I think that when a car has had chassis damage and is re jigged then those weak points can start to come bent again as time goes on and the car is driven hard. Consequence is that the car doesnt feel right and uneven tyre wear over time. Why risk so much???

Do you mind if i ask what happened with this ?? It is c £10k below what i expect (well OK actually hope as I am trading in soon!! ) LHD ?

Its a RHD car - just coming up to 2 years old with hardly any options on it.
I didn't go for it in the end.
Its had a couple of accident repairs - one of them a nasty rear end shunt that worried me (seeing as the engine is in the rear !)
It was all repaired by AFN so should be OK but not the car for me.
AFN offered him £30k trade in & thats what he offered to sell it to me for - I am not sure if AFN lowered their offer as they knew about its history ???

I have just bought a 996 1998 C4 Tiptronic with 120k on the clock in speed yellow. I wondered if I held the record for the most miles 996. It cost me 29k but I just can't get over how little wear anywhere this is. It was used by the previous owner to drive to Paris nearly every week for two years. He racked up over 30k miles a year! The car is sublime, it has not apparent wear anywhere. You couldl put 30k on the clock and I could be fooled. I have had a 911sc for three years with less miles on it but more wear so it goes to show you can't just use mileage readins to judge a car.

Portiacraft - a specialist in North London - were offering a damaged repaired C2 1998 tip for sale at £26995. It had done only 19k miles. (Its now sold.)
