Good driving for a cold engine?

Hi all,

Just wondering, how do you drive your motors from a cold start. I try to just keep it under 2k RPM until fully warmed up (15 minutes)... anything else I should worry about? Maybe with the layout of the engine you don't need to even do this... or maybe keeping it below 2k RPM is stressing the engines internals. Any advise from your experience appreciated....

I am new to this amazing world of 911 driving, so pardon me if this seems likea silly question.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

2K sounds a bit low - I keep it below 3K for the first 5 minutes or so, then below 4K until the oil thermostat has opened. You can tell from the oil temp guage when this happens - it'll go up to about the first large white mark at about 8 o'clock, then drop back down a bit when the thermostat opens.

same same.. I tend to keep between 2.5 and 3.5 until the thermostat has opened. This goes for any of the older cars/engines that I deal with. At 2-3k rpm there isnt too much stress on the engine and the velocity of sliding and revolving components is reasonably low too.

At 1 - 2k there is quite a lot of load on components especially on gradients

So it does, I'd not noticed that before. Trouble is I was almost at work by the time it happened. Will have to move house to get further away and have a chance to run the car well! (This is a 993 I'm in, so 993s and 964s seem same on this)
