Planning a road trip for a week or so to take in the large model airshow at Elvington on 9 August and then staying with friends in Masham.
Thereafter, am thinking to head up to Glasgow to stay with family and then head further north.
So any suggestions of a petrolhead nature for possible routes for scenery and Stelvio pass type drives for me to consider.
Also any recommendations of good B+Bs would also be most welcome?
Cheers and I promise there will be bags of piccies in the Running report!

Stuart
where do we start, not sure of all the road numbers as I was born in the area.
leave Glasgow and head up loch Lomond to Crianlarich, take a left there and head to Tyndrum Green welly shop for a quick bite to eat, and a pkt of Shortbread. Head up and thru Glen Coe , (could be some mobile cams) and then to Fort william, from there head up Loch Ness and turn off at Invermoriston heading on the road to Skye. One of the most eye catching views is when you have wiped the smile off your face you are Faced with Eilenan Donan Castle , another piccy stop, From there head over the Achnasheen road many excellent fast sweepers on a quiet road, then head back down via Inverness past the home of the Monster. Sell your house in England, and move back up . Roads have the name Porsche written all over them .
Oh and there are 100's more. Enjoy your trip

Didny know about the speed cameras on Glen Coe - Wen across there at 140.0 OOOOOPS.

AS you go around Loch Carron stop at every place you can - This is really GOD'S country A marine Biologist wo has travelled the world has described it as the most beautiful place on earth

Coming of the end Loch Carron TURN LEFT away from the Inverness Road. (Just testing to see who is awake!!!)

You will go back along LOch Carron and over a mountain into Loch Kishorn - There is a little restaurant wher the lady sells the sea food her husband has caught the night before. Rick Stein reckoned it was the best sea food I Scotland - Yes That Good

Been going there since it was a shack.

THen turn left over the mountain to Applecross One of the best and highest road in the UK. Fill up at Applecross the villager's run it and then go back around the coast - Again Gods country

WATCH FOR STAGS RUTTING a very quick way to slow you down . Last year we where barked at by this magnificent Stag in the Middle of the Road. Allow at least 2 months as you will not want to come home!!

Thinking of organising a run up there NEXT September

Picture is on top end of Isle of Skye over looking Rassay and Applecroft

You mean left at the end of Lochcarron surely? Turning right at that junction takes you to Achnasheen and Inverness.

Lochcarron to Applecross - there 2 weeks ago - in my opinion one of the greatest drives in the British Isles - on any day, but especially a clear day, it will take your breath away - if you've got a cabriolet watch out for the flies - your jaw will be dropped! Its a windy climbing passing places road mind you, so its a steady pace on this section.

The Applecross Inn is a brilliant palce to eat (and drink!). B&B or camp site just behind - worth staying to take in a sunset.

Then take the A82 across to Inverness; at Inverness go throug the town, DON@t follow the main A82 signs for Loch Ness/Fort William. Instead drive down the SOUTH side of Loch Ness to Fort Augustus - another stunning drive with great undulating scenic roads where you can use a Porsche for what its for!

Mind blowing scenery fab roads - I'm going back as soon as I can!

Just testing - I am a Sassenach from London - My Godmother owned the Loch Carron Hotel

Called there 15 years ago and met this lovely lady - when I spoke to my dad he told me that was 'Auntie Ruth'
When We went back 6 years later and called she had passed away a few month earlier but most of the people in the whole area know her

Just a moment of fame we where married at Gretna 26 years ago and 'stared' in "Wish you where here"

That's a sad but nice story. I have family in Lochcarron but very rarely get there even though I live in Fort William. Now I have the Porsche it will be a good excuse to see all these places that are no more than a couple of ours drive away.
