Good turnout of 964s at Donington this Sunday

Looks like we have quite a few 964's out this Sunday on the Donington track day.

I'm really looking forward to it as Donington is a great circuit and it really suits the 911 with it's fast flowing curves. [:)]

It's open pitlane but there are a lot of cars registered so I think we'll be queuing up to get out on the circuit...

Hope my brakes hold out after the inconsistent pedal issues on the last track day but as the circuit isn't really that hard on brakes I'm not expecting to have any major problems.

See you there.

Yes see you there Richard.

From past experience the only queuing will be if there is a red flag. The number booked on is the same as for any Bookatrack day at Donington (55 cars). Never had a problem with queues on these days. [:)]

There were 964s everywhere I looked at Silverstone yesterday.

I never realised they were so common [8|]

Many thanks Steve for arranging a great day[:D]
Much appreciated and look forward to next time.[;)]

Great to see you there Simon and Shawn [:)]

Highlight of the day for me was some flying passenger laps with Richard. I had no idea how quickly a fairly standard 964C2 could go round Donington. Those laps re-enforced to me again just how much a difference a good driver can make as to how fast a car can go. [:)]

Glad you enjoyed it Steve. Did the track dry up in the afternoon so you could get some decent laps in?

Your typical track day driver will spend loads of money on their car and on track time but don't invest in some decent tuition. There is nothing wrong with that approach and you can still have lots of fun but they will be wondering why they are getting passed by cars with 100 less horsepower and skinny tires!

Having someone assess a persons technique and be able to make suggestions how it can be improved will not only make them faster but also bring consistency and they'll be less likely to have any off track dramas. In the car you will know it's going well as a lap will be drama free and relatively relaxing.

So my advice would always be to start with a sound basic car, so the shocks are good and the wheel alignment is spot on, it has a matching set of half decent tyres and the brakes are refreshed then pay for some tuition from someone with experience of that type of car. Especially important for a 911! If they have a data logger then even better as you'll be able to see how changes in technique affect speed.

Once you can drive the car near to it's limit consistently then its the time to go for uprated bits and you should see your lap times improve with every upgrade!

No it never dried properly but still went out a couple of times and enjoyed it.

Here's my video of some of the morning laps. You'll note that in the second part I took your advice of 2nd gear at the chicane and driving it through rather than coasting. The car did indeed feel a lot better doing it that way. [:)]
