Bought a 996 Turbo in October 2013. Guards Red, manual 2002 with factory Aero kit, Black sports seats, red centre console, seat backs & dials. Milltek exhausts/cats. GT3 wheels, 65K. Looks like original clutch, slight judder but no slip. Effortless performance after a 993 C2S, which I owned for 2.5 years. Everything seems to work OK, usual front end 'wander' now better after 4 wheel alignment. Gearchange seems a very long 'throw' any views on fitting a short shift kit - benefits or drawbacks?
Pleased to be on the 996 Forum - Hello to you all!

Well done & enjoy , not much better performance wise for the price of a 911tt , I've just fitted a quick shift to mine , fantastic , go on eBay £59.99 .... Exact Same one in porscheshop £350 or thereabouts . Crazy

Enjoy the car

Im currently on car part buying hold until the mrs finishes maternity leave in september, but one of the upgrades i want is the gt3 short shift kit. Apparently its a very precise action vs standard and is a ~20% shorter throw i think.

Let us know how that feels if you get it Chris. If you read my letter in this month's 911 & Porsche World, you'll know I'm all about the manual gear shift experience!

I'm sorry and may be being a bit thick but is samba man saying that a 996 t hasn't got a lot more performance than a 993 c2?

No, he is saying that you can't get much more performance for the money than a 996T. [:)]

Which is the best kit to install on a Turbo that is only used for road driving ie not track ?

I have heard people recommend both the standard 997 shifter (which apparently feels nicer than the 996 and is a little shorter) or the 997 short shift kit
