Goodbye Ace Cafe

John Sims

PCGB Admin
On Monday I again undertook the hour+ drive to the Ace Café (from Hockley in Essex). On arrival I was sent away to run the gauntlet of parking on the street as the car park was full. It was full, but only included 5 or 6 Porsches in a sea of BMW's. I did see a Boxster being turned away after I arrived but that was about it.

I guess that wraps it up for Porsches at the Ace now. I can't see me bothering in the future. It is a great shame as the original meetings were brilliant.

Hi John,

I hope you are well.

I have been down a few times over the last couple of months, admittedly rather late due to work commitments, and have found a real lack of Porsche's and a sea of BMW's.

Nice cars and nice people - on the whole - but not what I was looking for.

There was a great night last year with many Porsche's, maybe enticed by the free food and drink, but nothing going since then.

It's a good venue but maybe needs to be publicised a bit more!

All the best,

Rob

I usually don't miss this but this Monday I had other commitments... Johannes was looking into a Porsche only day and he is now stepping down as London RO. I'll speak to him to see where it was left off as I really don't want Ace Cafe to RIP for Porsches.

Hi Rob,

Sorry I missed you. Both Beaky and I are well, although Beaky is off to the doctors again next week for further enhancements.[8D]

I think that The Ace is a great venue, and would be very disappointed to see it disappear as a Porsche meet. With Rick Cannell travelling from around the corner to The Ace to attend Essex meets I can hardly claim it it too far for for me to go to The Ace for an evening. Perhaps some other London boys would like to come to Essex meets to encourage similar reciprocal support?

BTW, while Beaky was obviously someones 87 Christmas bonus his chassis number confirms that he is 88 model specification [;)]

Hi John, as you will see I have now changed Beaky's age. I know you mentioned it a while ago but......

So what is she (he?) having done this time?

I had a great Track Day @ Brands last Tuesday, almost totally scrubbed a fresh set of tyres, in fact, the service manager at OPC Stratford said I got a round of applause from some of the mechanics when they saw them afterwards.

I have also managed to get through a Tipronic Box. Ouch. Seems like I have both Diff and Box oil mixing and dripping. Lets hope the Porsche warranty covers it as expected.

Question Beaky's gender again and he may well kill you. [;)]

As Beakys turbo is now well in excess of its 160K life expectancy it is time to change it before it goes bang and takes the rest of the engine with it. And when changing it is daft putting on one the same when bigger is better. [8D]

Shame as a good venue. I drove past about 8.30pm, turned away from the gates and didn't se emany Porsches so kept going. Now the weather has picked up, if we can get a slot I think it would be well attended.

Does anyone go to the meets at the Dysart Arms in Richmond?

Not much further for me, within Rick's capabilities to get to, must be about the same for you, John?

A friend of ours, who lives next door to the pub, says the Porsche night is a good evening if you are a bloke who likes standing around chatting about cars...[:)]

Food is pretty good, and the beer's great, but it's not in the same price bracket as the Ace.

Might be worth trying next month? Don't know when it is.

2nd Wednesday of each month - Claire and I always go (unless we're on hols!)

Small bunch of people there - but as you say, usually a good natter about cars (which is what it's all about isn't it? [:)])

Hi Maurice

Yes, Faiz is my bro and he has a 993 C2S. Nice car!!

Hope to see you soon.
