Goodbye Boxster

Well the time has come to move on and my Boxster 2.7 has been traded for a 996. Just wanted to leave you with a few thoughts:

Low points of Boxster ownership
  • Every time I put the roof down it seem to rain - maybe a bit of an exaggeration
  • Replacing the bloody RMS at 33,000 miles just after three years old - why aren't cars built like they used to be - my 924S has never leaked a drop of oil in all its 18 years?
  • Having boring people who own Fords, VWs and Vauxhalls telling me that it's a "hairdressers car"
  • Having other boring people who have never driven a Porsche in their life telling me I "should have got an S"

High points
of Boxster ownership
  • Driving it through the country lanes on a summers day "" what a car - unbelievable handling and so forgiving
  • The lovely smooth delivery of power at any speed and in any gear
  • The lovely smooth ride on standard wheels and suspension "" when you use the car every day and live in an area with pot holes everywhere this is more important than "˜track day' set up
  • Driving it around Brands Hatch
  • The trip to Porsche Cars Reading to celebrate the 10th anniversary "" thanks PCGB for a great day
  • Yesterday after years of ownership getting my first wave from another Boxster owner "" I always get a wave in the 924S from other front-engined Porsches but had given up on the Boxster owners
And finally the pleasure of meeting the Boxster Register Secretary and all the other Boxster owners, I only hope the 996 lot are as nice

Thanks and farewell

John,
Seems like you will pretty much carry all the low points over to 996:
  • Every time you will wash and wax your car, it will rain
  • RMS is a feature on 996 too!
  • You will have boring people tell you that they are now too common on the road...
  • The other boring people will tell you that you should have bought a 997 C2S, Turbo or a GT3
Enjoy your 996 [:D]

Good points THX911!

The 996 is quite a different drive to the Boxster, more power but you have to be careful when and how you use it. Unlike the Boxster you can't just drive into corners at any speed it is back to the 'slow in fast out' style. I love the 996 and looking forward to learning how get the best out of it.
