Goodbye Cayman Register, hello Boxster Register!

Hello everyone, I'm in the process of turning from the dark side of having a roof to the bright side of not having a roof! The Cayman has been gone for some time now, due to a house purchase which lasted for an eternity.

Now I'm very excited to be a member again and to be joining the Boxster register in a few weeks' time when I pick up my, new to me, 987.2 manual Boxster S.

It will be great to move from a PDK coupé with sports seats to a manual convertible with sports plus seats. All the stars seem to be aligning, despite the fuel prices.

If anyone is coming to the Silverstone Classic next month - I look forward to seeing you there. I'm also in the process of having my display ticket changed from the Cayman to the Boxster.

Oddly, been thinking of a Cayman, but not really worth the expense of a change.

Will be going to Silverstone but in the '73 911, such a shame the Club could not sort a deal with the organizers, it was such a good 'gathering'.

We need 'proof' of your Boxster!

Thank you, I look forward to taking part in many enjoyable events with the Boxster people. Below are some pictures of the car's listing on autotrader. The current seller is taking it to Strasse for a service and once over before I pick it up and finalise the purchase. After that I get to enjoy the 200 mile trip back down to London in it (hopefully trouble free)!

Very curious to see how the power delivery will compare to the 981 Cayman S. On paper they have almost identical power figures...

My dad had a '73 911 back in the day - an orange 911T with fuel injection (US spec). Lovely car, looking forward to see yours!

The Boxster, all 71K miles of it, had a few 'issues, but now working really well.





And my beloved 911, had it for 34 years, bit of a modified thing, 3.2 engine and much more.



 
Beautiful cars. We have very similar Boxsters - glad yours is doing well after 71k miles. I intend on driving mine like there's no tomorrow as well. Small issues are fine, so long as the bones are strong!

I'll have to ask you a dozen questions about your 911 (best in person, or else we'll end up filling up the PCGB servers). 3.2 is quite large, is that bored out from the original motor (is that even possible?) or an engine from a late 80s 911? Either way, a beautiful car in a classic 911 colour.

But, to answer your question, I popped the 3.2 engine/ box in from a 1985 911 wreck into the '73 back in 1996, 230 bhp/ tonne....

 
The car is finally in my possession and she's an absolute joy to drive. Difficult to compare every bit to the previous 981, but I would say the driving experience is much more raw in the 987. I'm very impressed. This one is more of a keeper than the 981 was! One question I have (and perhaps this should be for a different post), the engine bay fan (on the driver's side 'intake') seems to be on most of the time and even switches on after the car is turned off. There doesn't seem to be any overheating of the engine. I've read that this can be due to the temperature sensor falling off its bracket and resting on/near the engine block. I couldn't find any post online with a diagram showing where this temperature sensor is located. Would anyone be able to help out?

 
I know it's pretty normal for the fan to occasionally come on after switching off .

Maybe the fans coming on more with the hot summer we are experiencing at present.

But should not be running 24/7.

After some driving it appears to be fine!

Look forward to seeing some of you at the classic!
