......yes thats right , day was intended for what DVLA call Classic Cars , no 2.7RS spotted , and of course no 964RS present as thats only a 'Future Classic' []
It was organised by Goodwood Road Race Club , so only open to a limited number of owners .
Held on Monday 17 June , a very eclectic turnout , bit like a mini-Revival at Goodwood !
Surprisingly no Ferraris seen , but there were a few E types , a few Astons , some Austin Healey , racing Jag XJS's , a brace of Mustangs , a beautiful Alvis tourer , a Lotus 11 , to name but a few.
I turned up in a 'proper' 1969 911 , there were a few Porsche , including an early ( 1965? ) 911 in blue that looked like a Tuthilled job , caged and stripped , unpolished...never got out a picture.
Conditions were good , car had just been CenterGravitied ( thread on DDK 911 forum) , rear tyres a bit thin , datalogger installed.
The only downside was the GoPro camera had managed to discharge its battery somehow , so instead of being able to post some action video , could only take paddock pics on phone camera. A pity because I had rediscovered the art of overtaking and the '69E was mighty on the day , even noise tested at 96db !! Maximum vectorG pulled was 0.9178 on first part of Lavant bend , maximum speed corrected by GPS was 119 at top of 4th gear , just below 7200 rev limiter , tempted to change to 5th to save the engine but hey that noise is intoxicating.
Shock of the day was an early MGTA , wire wheels and skinny race crossplies , keeping same pace as me through both St Mary's and the following Lavant bend ....no indication of braking...must have been fun
Most interesting car ? Fiat Abarth...... 8)
PS for Gruppenfuhrer , I kept that red Mustang behind me , he had the legs on the Lavant straight but nowhere else.
Maybe if you had been out there in your Mustang it might have been closer []
