Goodwood Revival

What a great event! The 964RS Forum was represented by a limited number of the usual suspects.
Brilliant races, outstanding machinery, lovely weather - we couldn´t have asked for more.
Thanks for the company and a special thanks to the Big D., who organised it in style.

Rgds,

Hacki

Indeed a great British Operation organised and coordinated in a military fashion with no losses, everything went to clockwork including the wax incident and no water for the prisoner!

Fantastic event, even if a little light on Porsches. The racing is full-on no matter how expensive the car. Those light-weight E Types do it for me, I'd love one of those. For anyone that missed it there is plenty of TV coverage on (from memory) Motors TV and ITV4, well worth a watch.

Goodwood Revival, like all Goodwood events, is over hyped and over priced. Many of the cars are fakes or hot rods and nothing like the originals (all but one of the Cobras carry fake bodies!!). As for the non-sense which is the dressing up ..... And just how many times do you want to see a load of old blokes on mopesd? The us and them mentality; keep out of here, you can't go there, it's £x if you want to do that.... The media suck up to Lord March and dare not say a bad word about the event. Its a proper emperors new clothes charade. Head to the Spa Classic or Classic Le Man for the real deal. Just my 2p worth...... Damen

So you didn't enjoy it Damen? I thought it was a fabulous day out and yes, both my wife and I 'dressed up'....

Hi Mel I went to the first few and was a paid up GRRC member but realised over time that the prices kept going up, the racing was spread over more days (three days from two) so you got less of it as a day visitor and the Laurel and Hardy nonsense became more and more prevalent. As for the annual Misty March sing-a-long..... IMO, if you're interested in real racing and genuine cars there are better events. Damen

I agree with Damen, I went a couple of years ago and although I had the right passes, I wasn't allowed into a certain pit area because I wasn't wearing a tie. Tw@ts

Come and join the northern paupers at the Gold Cup (Oulton) No dressing up apart from the clogs and cheap as chips......

I have never attended in person, but have many times digitally, via youtube. The racing action (as seen inboard and filmed on the track) is fantastic in my view (I wish all race cars had cross-plies :) Of course there is a deep sense of ridicule, but then is it not expected in the land of the British monarchy? [:D][:D] See examples here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6x2RZB4O6s http://www.youtube.com/user/GoodwoodTV

On a commercial note, it was a great success this year .. did not get to see much racing, but some of us have to work[;)]

Well I've driven in Spa Classic, Le Mans Classic but not Goodwood revival. I have to say all the big classic events have non-standard cars, they simply cant control them, its too much. I've enjoyed all 3, and agree the front of the goodwood grids are more like Spa 6 hours. The Spa classic is a wonderful event, with a great relaxed atmosphere. LeMans is much more mainstaim and high profile, the paddock is really crowded but its a fantastic event and privilege to be a part of. Goodwood (As a spectator), is more quirky (with all that themed stuff), but I quite like it. Plus they get some high profile names, and the racing is good. It stays on the tick list! :) Nobody has mentioned Silverstone, which is an amazing event too, possibly with more to see off circuit than the others. They are all getting increasingly hard to get into and going up in price. Interest is rising.

Well me n the missus and our 20YO had a great time at Goodwood this year -dressing up is part of the fun and whilst not a GRRC member for a few years now did not feel exclusion from the paddock was a problem. I'll be back again next year, hopefully for more than one day. And of course there is a dress code Steve!!

Agree Hacki, great event and some really spirited driving in the race events. Nice to be out in the English Country, great weather and dressed for the event with other like minded enthusiasts! Two days next year! Best event of the year for myself and Mandy! Shame we didn't get to meet with you, or Mel or John L - too much to see and do. But next year hopefully a 964RS meet? ;-)

You´re right, we could have posted on the forum before... Let´s see - even two days is not enough (at least for a first timer like me). It started on Thursday with everybody coming in and a fantastic airshow right above the campsite. Friday was a real time warp experience - no words. Sat and Sun PROPER racing! Let alone all the airshows... I didn´t have a single bad experience with staff members or other spectators, everybody was friendly, relaxed and enjoying. Absolutely no aloofness. And, yes, being dressed in period correct style is part of it and indeed you do feel a much bigger part of the game. And although I didn´t have exactly the right passes, I wasn´t excluded from that "special" part of the paddocks - of course I was dressed for the event and wearing a tie. The very friendly staff guy just said something like "not sure about your pass, but you´re ok." Try that at Spa! For us Europeans the conditio sine qua non is nice weather - you probably have to be British to enjoy it in the rain on that grassland. So, lucky us in wonderful sunshine that weekend! When we left, we folled a beautiful Aston Martin DB 2 for a while - another detail, one of thousands that weekend. Now following racing for more than three decades the Goodwood Revival is one of the top events I´ve ever attended. Maybe even no. 1, equal with the 1981 24 hrs of Le Mans race. Regards, Hacki

Absolutely old boy and we even let you get back to the Fatherland with all your limbs and faculties intact!![;)]
