It was a great day for a trackday as Gruppenfuhrer says , the skies were grey all day but the weather went somewhere else to precipitate. It was chilly , so tyres did not get much heat in a 15 minute session , but track was in good condition with exception of a large cement dust trail on the entry to Woodcote , on the racing line of course !
As you know , Oliver was there hoping to try out the Classic Le Mans 911 . Unfortunately that car went sick early on so did not do much running , engine teardown needed probably. I guess you would have been pretty frustrated if you had been there hoping to drive it . The fastest early car was the white Historika 911 on Dunlop Racing crossplies in the hands of a committed driver....I moved over for it [8|]
There was a good showing of early 911s....3 x 1964-5 SWB plus my 1968 LWB , Dan Squires's RSR tribute , a couple of IBs , Peter Tognola in a 993RS , a 944 Turbo , a Boxster , Vic Cohen's 997GT3RS and a couple more kettles , a Lotus Elan racecar , a TR 3 racecar , a Ginetta racecar , and last but not least by any means Clio and Megane of the hot hatch variety.
Gruppenfuhrer arrived in a period Ford Mustang . I managed to add 8 secs to my previous best lap , that's about it really []

OT, the 8 seconds is that down to conditions on the day in the same car, or was that previous best in your 964?.... Just for perspective...cheers.
I was in a '68 911E , and have previously kept pace with Boxster S 's. at Goodwood....but only by carrying speed into the corners , principally Madgwick , Noname , Lavant. I have lost the bottle to do that on 2 days so far this year . All the timing is from analysis of spycam footage of course , after getting back home and connecting spycam to a laptop. Top speed at end of Lavant in E is around 120 , and last year in 964RS was 135-140 . I imagine Vic in his fast kettle would be over 140 at that point . All things being equal I'd expect to lap about 8 secs slower than a 964RS , not bad for an old car , but this time I was 8 secs slower than the same car same driver ![]
BTW spycam is brilliant bit of kit for the money , about £20.
Sorry being a bit slow. Of course its goodwood, if you sneeze too loudly you are sent off - unless you are in an airplane.ORIGINAL: Melv
