Gordon Brown and his "Green" budget

So are we all affected by the budget change on car road tax ?

I can't see anything online that clarifies the bandings that helps me work out whether we're due for a double-whammy (more tax through fuel charges plus this £400 rubbish).

Anyone with a 996/997 - or a boxter for that matter is almost certainly going to have to pay the £400 road tax. Don't quote me, but I think that the average 911 pushes out about 265 grams of CO2 per km and he referred to the "average" car pushing out 160 grams per km. I think that you can safely say that anything over 200 grams is going to get it - but it's probably going to be nearer 160 grams - which could well include your average company car. Don't forget; we're at war with another country and wars have to be paid for!

Not sure about the Boxster... but the lightest smallest engine (c2) is tax band G at 266g/km CO2.

Looks like your right. That means my 03/05 997 will be cheaper than the same engined 03/06 997! Wheres the logic in that?

Just checked and my 996 Facelift is 274G/KM however the point above about the new banding only affecting cars registered after March 23rd 2006 is spot on.

The difference between band F and G is most odd. How long til they're merged I wonder.

Most normal cars are probably in the higher bands. I know a chap with a 4cyl Rover 400 auto which is in the same group as our petrol 4.2 A8!

...

It's not really odd .. the new banding was introduced so that purchasers of new cars have a choice about what they want to buy on the basis that cars of 225 carbons will cost more to tax than than bank Fs. They won't 'back-date' the banding as that would be seen as being (more) unfair on those who had bought before the concept of band G was introduced. That's not to say they won't increase band F's charges in the future though.

Makes a 2000 / early 2001 TT look like a good buy though ... with just 180 to tax
