Got it! My new S2

ghost

New member
Collected my new S2 yesterday. Drives well - straight and true. Very quiet apart from the (very) slight gearbox whine - thou' I believe this is normal. It's not an unpleasant noise.
Plenty of grunt in the engine. I look forward to spending the weekend washing and polishing.

She looks very smart - I am sure you won't regret taking the plunge into 944 ownership ! Yes a bit of gearbox noise is par for the course, all part of the cars character !

Thank you, Jon. The 944 is a lovely drive. Very low, classic sports car feel. It was nearly midnight when we got home - hence the dark photo. Will post a few more at the weekend. There's a lot of swirl and marring in the paint, so i'm going to attack it with my G220 polishing machine.

BTW: I noticed that the dashboard light is not very bright, even with the dimmer control turned up full. Is this normal?

Ooooh - he's had it less than a day and he's already asking about dim dashboard lighting!

I sense we have a new regular in the making here, lads .... !

('Tis a common problem. Search is your friend, but the answer is that the silver reflective coating on the prisms in the illumination system will have lost it's shineyness, and you need either some new prisms or a spangly LED conversion kit. When you get the wallet out to pay for aforementioned spangly conversion kit, don't be in a rush to put it away again ... you may find you are using it quite frequently ... [;)] )

Hehehe - I'll have a search. Think I saw an LED conversion on Pelican Parts, but thought it was just some bling! [:D]

is that a Porsche Club sticker in the corner of the windscreen? if so, a good sign

Yeah. The car came from a PCGB member in Region 17 (David Land). He also has a 356, 968 and a GT3.

Well done Marcus, that didn't take you too long to find.

Check your records to see when the gearbox oil was last changed. It should be every 4 years but it's one of those things that is often overlooked and it's my personal theory is the reason a lot of cars have so called noisy boxes.

My car has a PCGB sticker from a previous owner. Is there a way to find when it was registered? Do the register keep info about the cars or is it just to get club benefits.( I am trying to put together a history of ownership/mileage/work done on my car)
Thanks Steve

Steve - my S2's previous owner left his name and number with the dealer I bought the car from. He told the dealer he was happy to take calls from prospective buyers. I called David, who is a really nice chap and a total Porsche enthusiast. He had already compiled a lot of the background. I have an A4 folder (the PCGB owners file) with receipts etc, going back to the original owner (I am now the 6th owner). David told me the best way to get history is to just to call everyone connected with the car and get more contacts to call, and then call them and.... so on... It's nice too know everything about the car's life and makes for an interesting evening's read [;)] One owner had even put old photos and hotel receipts (for a European tour) in the file!

Also, the owners manual is now fully populated with the names and address of all previous owners. I intend to continue the paperwork tradition for G247 ABW.

hiya marcus, looks a great car with the history to back it up, good luck with the polishing, i had my s2 fully paint detailed at the end of last summer, looked amazing when finished and then comes the upkeep! all the best regards jasonp.

Yes looking forward to seeing some freshly polished pics:) Lovely to see another car go to an enthusiast. Enjoy your time with her:)

Be careful not to take the corners off the alloy rain channel - if it still has paint on them, of course.

Congrats on the purchase, looks very nice.

Welcome to 944 ownership - only had mine a short while and it is becoming a bit of an obsession....

Yes, the dash lights are seriously dim - can't even see the temp guage on mine, but will worry about that when I can at least drive it again !

Happy driving........
