A bit of a spur of the moment purchased, I always dreamed of owning a porker and was looking around for a Cayman but then saw this fully loaded Boxster at a what I think is a bit of a bargain.

Car Spec

2010 Carrera White Gen 2 987 Boxter S 3.4 (Direct Injection)

PDK
Leather
19" Turbo Alloys
PCM Sat Nav
Bose
Sports Chrono
White Colour coded Gear Surround and Roll bars.

First impressions, the car was in top condition with only one significant stone chip on the front bumper

Owner was honest and upfront, it had had had a brake fluid leak which was repaired under warranty and a new back tyres which was surprising as the car had only done 10K miles so I assume it had been tracked. Not too bothered though as these cars are designed to be driven hard.

Although I was looking for a manual, the PDK is a real revelation, its super smooth gear changes and often I am surprised as what gear I am in. Great when stuckin London traffic. Sports Chrono adds launch control which is always fun when you have some road to play with.

Wheels I am told are genuine porsche turbo wheels but were wrapped in Pirelli P Zero which is unusual as I thought porkers came with Michelin Supersports. Anyway this I think affects the ride quality but look awesome.

Bose Sound system, is RUBBISH ! honestly don't bother if you are speccing up the system. I have played around with all the settings the problem in my opinion is that there are two man speakers 11 in total for a such a small soundspace that all you hear is crap. Bass is too boomy the top end sounds tinny.

PCM, once again I wished I hadn't bothered as although it is a capable enought sat NAV you are better off spending your money on getting an Iphone with Tom Tom and fix a brodit proclip to hardwire. It sounds a bit anal but I which that the porsche logo crest would show on screen when you started the car. It just shows this stupid legal disclaimer.

Overall I love my newish porker.. bring on the good weather and that roof is comin off !

Congratulations - white seems to be the new red with Porsches. Must assume the guy sold it privately after receiving a poor valuation for trade-in.

Love PDK myself, especially when combined with Sport Chrono. Have never tried Launch Control myself, but its certainly a lovely gearbox and my next car will certainly be PDK.

Agree on the Bose being naff. Had it on a C2S Cab and I couldn't get it to sound decent at all.

I do like the PCM sat nav being built in (less nickable), even though its somewhat limited.

Welcome ....

Tyres:

There are several approved brands for the 19" wheel, it is one of the only this you cannot specify when ordering the car:

Bridgestone Potenza RE050A N1
Michelin Pilot Sport 2 N1
Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric N0
Pirelli P-Zero N2

It is pot luck to which you get. However it is not recommended that you mix these, indeed you will notice an 'N' number it is also not recommended that you mix 'N' ratings. (You can get N1 versions of your particular tyre brand) If they are all N1 that's also fine, N2 is the latest Porsche tested version.

btw Michelin 'Supersports' are currently not an approved tyre.

PCM: If you set the default screen to be non-nav or non-map you will get the crest statup but you will always have to confirm you accept the terms on first accessing either of those screens.

Agree on the Nav system not being the most user friendly and most annoying is it not accepting a full UK postcode.

BOSE: Agree it's not the best but it does provide the most speakers if nothing else.

10K on a set of rears is not necessarily an indicator of it being tracked - some people do only get that (or less)

Why not bring it to the register meeting next month? Would be good to see [8D]

Hi I have tried many differnent ways of turning my PCM on and off and have never ever seen the porsche crest logo appear :(

I have the PCM 3.0 with software ver 1.14 I think?? I found the version once onthe menu just tried to check now but couldn't find it again.

10,000 miles for a set of pirellis seems pretty good going. Mine came with continentals and the rears lasted 8000 !
