Government Health Warnings?

Hi

Just had to post this email from my brother. He agreed to look after, garage and service my RS whilst I'm abroad in return for limited mileage. Fortunately he's fully recovered from the stroke [:)] (unrelated!) but seems he had a torrid time. Some peoples RS experiences clearly differ!

Hi Tim Hope you are well. I thought I ought to write and discuss what's going to happen when you get back to Blighty.
Well I must say having responsibility for your car has been a mixed experience! On the very few occasions when I got it out I could get the point of it, but unfamiliarity with it plus an overactive imagination at at every T junction, uphill start( try that when trying to join a fast dual carriageway) and every passing lorry, left my nerves in shreds! As a result it has not been driven more than 40 miles apart from getting it from York and to Sutton Coldfield (more of that later)[FONT=verdana, geneva"]It was a foul winter anyway so not much real opportunity anyway and that coupled with needing Andy around to get it out, and Andy is never around always on some business trip, meant it stayed put right through. It seemed happy? though and at least it was safe, or so I thought! (more of that later)[FONT=verdana, geneva"]So I then come to start it up when Spring sprung and it seemed to have died completely. Complete electrical breakdown , not a flicker from the engine or light of any description on the dashboard so I went into a tailspin of panic and then I had a stroke!! (not linked I might add) [FONT=verdana, geneva"]I guess then I just went into denial. When I was feeling better I decided that we were just going to have to get it recovered from the garage ,slung on a breakdown truck, taken to the main dealership in Nottingham and have it fixed regardless of cost.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Another friend of mine said he'd have a look at it (Honda Blackbird, 160mph on public roads type, but very practical)[FONT=verdana, geneva"]So we went up and WHEN I remembered the correct way of disarming the immobiliser ( with Mike's help) it fired up first time with not a murmur of hesitation. I mean, we couldn't believe it. What a motor.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Then what to do as the problems were not over yet. Unfortunately in the intervening months Andy's batty aunt had taken to storing rubbish and stuff around the whole front of it and she just seemed incapable of understanding that this was not a good thing from an avoiding scratching it point of view. Then coz I'd left it's pyjamas off once and I think the weather warmed up rapidly, some small droplets of what we believe to be white roofing compound dripped onto it's nose.AARRGGHH!! DON"T PANIC it has all thankfully come off with just some gentle soap and water and it really has all gone.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Needless to say we needed to move it and fast.It was no longer safe![FONT=verdana, geneva"]I parked in my drive for a couple of weeks and it started fine, then I arranged to take to my friend Mark's house in Sutton Coldfield as he has a fine spare garage with a wine cellar underneath. Come the day, wouldn't start! AA man said one of the battery cells wasn't working or something, anyway one new Lucas battery later fired up good as new(AA man member PCGB! got a 944 turbo)[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Won't bore you with details of how Louise nearly lost control of her Yaris due to a leg muscle spasm and nearly crashed into the back of it as we made an emergency stop in a layby on the A38, but we got it there safe and sound!![FONT=verdana, geneva"]Oh and I think its got a leaking valve on the left rear tyre, needs topping up more than the others.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]It's not shed a drop of fluid of any sort and when not in the hand of an incompetant has fired up and run beautifully. What a motor.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]So in summary I'm 20 years older, and it will need it's tyres looking at and it appears to have survived the ordeal much better than me!![FONT=verdana, geneva"]I've arranged to go to pick it up with you on Tuesday pm 8th July from Mark and Sue's but I don't know where you get the tyre looked at, there is a Porsche dealer in Sutton Coldfield but it must be a very slow leak but obviously needs checking.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Sorry but I was so nervous driving it I was a f***ing liability even up and down the A52[FONT=verdana,geneva"]We're off on holiday tomorrow until the 28th but get back to me via E mail or phone if there is anything else you want to know[FONT=verdana, geneva"]See you soon Bro[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Nice post. Hope he's well on the way to recovery - from the stroke AND the ordeals of looking after your pride and joy. [;)]
