Off on the Grand Tour at the end of the Month.

Portsmouth-Le Havre - Caen - La Rochelle - Bordeaux - Biarritz - San Sebastian - Bilba - Santander - Portsmouth.

Any advice on places to stay with good secure parking would be very much appreciated.

If you're going as far as San Sebastian, give yourself a driving treat and drive south down to Burgos through the mountains - abslulutely blinding road. Sorry, can't help with hotels, as I normally just stop and find somewhere, there are loads about in that part.

if you get to burgos it certainly will be a grand tour-its nearly halfway to madrid from san sebastien[:D]

If you get to Burgos why not continue onto Salamance and practice pretend that you're Sean Bean as this was an important site for Wellingtons battle with the French.[8|]

I think that Mrs S's wish to visit the Guggenheim might take preference over Burgos. At least she can't drive and I don't have to share. 21 days and counting. P.S. for those so inclined, there is good cider and wild boar chorizo to be had in the Picos de Europa.

Just to get the journey and distances into perspective, it is quite feasible to do Burgos to UK (Sussex) or vice verca in a day, and I mean without going mental. I did it in a Picasso, having taken a load of household stuff down to Malaga, and intended to stop in Fance for the night, but after looking at 2 dud hotels decided to just get home. French motorways may be expensive, but it's the way to eat up the miles. I've done the drive to Malaga quite a few times (Celica GT, Picasso, and 911) now and it really is no chore, especially if you allow 2 days, and the lack of traffic on Spanish motorways just has to be seen to be believed.
