Gravel Rash touch Up

A good detailer will be able to sort these, I know a chap local to me here in NI and he's well known for being a master at this. It takes time, but he dabs touch up on each chip, builds it up until it is proud of the paintwork and then softly sands it level with wet and dry sandpaper, then polishes/waxes it up again. It takes time, but works a treat apparently.

I'm looking for some touch up treatments for my bonnet, front wings and bumper, actually front few inches of the roof too!

I wouldn't consider it too great a problem if the Cayman was white but it's Atlas Grey which is one of the metallic lacquered finishes, I have a Porsche touch up but have never been too impressed with using these things although the colour match is good. If I polish the touch up down it is dull and then the colour doesn't match.

What manufacturers supply a useable product that is effective? I've been looking on you tube and one or two look reasonable but most shrink and leave a crater in the correct colour.

My bonnet currently looks like a clear sky at night[8|] and I may have to resort to a front end respray in the next year but I'll try and wait until the councils have used up most of next summer with resurfacing the roads.[&o]

Unless someone knows of something that works well on these dark colours.

I appreciate that, I was just suggesting that perhaps a good detailer local to you in England should be able to help. Cambridge Autogleam would be worth trying. The guy I know here is just a private company covering NI I'm afraid, sorry!

You might be interested in this old thread, Langka is great but depends on the number of chips you are dealing with. http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=541529&mpage=1&key=touch&#541529

Looks good on the plain colours Peter have you ever seen anyone who has used it on the dark metallics? Meantime I'll look into suppliers of the Langka stuff and as Wallachie suggests check up on local detailers. I did have a repair done on my Boxster a few years ago by Chipsaway and he said that for a couple of chips low down on the bonnet the whole bonnet would need to be resprayed, well the bonnet of the Cayman is much worse. So many chips showing undercoat that it's like the stars came out on my bonnet.

Yes, used it on the Cayenne, which is Basalt Black. Good results but again, only the odd chip, not really gravel rush. Here's an example of how the brave do it... http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=153965

As you say how the brave do it, I'll get some lighter fluid and try it out on the rear edge of the engine air vents which are small and not so noticeable also the front wings have some small chips suitable for practice. Thanks for showing this, you say you've used Langka on Basalt Black so I'll see where I can get that, tried last night but didn't find anywhere, next stop ebay.

I found Langka on ebay at about £36 for the kit and have got some lighter fluid to try the other suggestion on a small area which I'll try in the next few days, following a little research I came across a uk company called Paints4u.com has anyone here used them?

Try this lot, http://www.frost.co.uk/catalogsearch/result/?order=relevance&dir=desc&q=langka&submit= you can buy the full kit or just the solvent.

Thanks again Peter, same place as on ebay so no problem as I have a paypal account. Langka certainly get good reports. If anyone knows paints4u they are less expensive and supply colour too included in the kit so it would be good if anyone has dealt with them.

The beauty for me of the Langka system was that you use the manufacturers touch up, which you say is a good match. You can also use it on other cars, of course.

Two things persuade me on the Langka. a) using Porsche Touch up Paint so best colour match. b) no abrasive such as wet and dry used and by using the card with a fine microfibre the paint surface only takes a little polishing. I've been checking out the ad's and how too's on You Tube, poor picture quality but of the options available seems about the best for small bits at least.

Have you considered Chipex, they were demonstrating on a dark blue metallic at Silverstone Classic this year and the results looked good

I've seen the website and the demo which as with all of them uses an easy colour to treat which is non metallic hence the appeal of the Langka. This is the first good report I've heard of them on a dark metallic. More food for thought. I thought I'd made my mind up but now I'm not so sure...[8|] If colour match is so good then it has enough to last some time...
