Hi Des,
Thanks for making it along yesterday and taking my place. I won't rave about your car again as I've already done that in the other thread []

I had a blast and gave the new suspension a shake down.
Andrew S was on slicks and terrorised and thoroughly spanked the GT2/3 RS`s []
The quickest thing there was a ford fiesta (new shape), I couldnt believe it until I saw it was stripped out/caged/fully track prepped with a cossie turbo engine, even Andrew couldnt catch it [8|]
Towards the end of the session just before the loony last hour I met Paul going the wrong way. I waved but Paul and Josh had a look of terror on their faces........................
....................I cant think why?

Yes that Fiesta was something else, also I was impressed with those track prepared Clio's, they were going some as well. It was a superb day and Bedford is a great track for novices to have a go as the run-off area's are either aprons of concrete or grass - which I was very thankful for during my first session out where I did a manouver that would have scored highly in a snowboarding halfpipe competition - I think they would have called it a 720 redface.
Between the jet-fighter scream of Pauls 3.2 and the spine tingling flat six rasp of Des's 964 the day was an aural treat.

Pictures from last Saturday's track day are now uploaded - navigation bars are still blank at this stage because of other uploads taking place.

Yes and seemed to be quite tricky if you take liberties with the cornering. I let the guy past after the complex but he really didn't pull far enough ahead going into the s bend, I think I may have misjudged his acceleration and didn't give him enough room. He tried to take a straight line and bump right over the second kerb but it looked like he caught the inside wheel, inside the kerb unsettling the car and causing the guy to spin right in front of me. Luckilly I could see all this developing so stayed right out over on the left of the track to keep out of the way.
Hugely impressive cornering in the wet, even more so then the still very high dry track performance level.
Guys was it the orange exige that blew up? I don't remember seeing much of it in the afternoon.

I don't think the Exige blew up.
I went out in it early in the afternoon, mighty impressive through the corners, took the left hand sweeper before the back hairpin with the throttle nailed at somewhere on the naughty side of 110mph, probably no faster than the 944's in a straight line (and it was a Cup 240 with the supercharged Toyota engine, so not shy on power to weight ratio) but was superb in the twisties.
It was probably stood as you had to pay to go out in it.
I know their rental Elise was sidelined as the clutch was mullered by someone who drove it early on.

Tell me about it. Probably one of the most trouser filling moments I had was trying to emulate the exige in the dry by not lifting or braking for that corner. I ran wide with massive understeer had to carefully lift and then pray that I had enough grip on the marbles not to end up of the track. In the dry I was hitting 105 by the marker but after that experience realised I had to atleast lift off on turn in and let the bend scrub off 10 mph or so. The last 2 corners O Rouge and Tower were for me the most satisfying corners to take in the 944.ORIGINAL: hartge bob

It's worth noting that at least one of the Clios was a Pukka Clio Cup race car.
900kg, 180bhp and a 6 speed sequential box, enough to make most people go backwards!
He span right in front of me, obviously saw green!..............[&:]

Most entertaining - White 3 series (should have entered Strictly Come Ice Dancing)
Biggest b*lls - Volvo V70 estate driver (totally out of control most of the time but he/she didnt seeem to care)
Bang for your bucks - Old rusty Supra (I think?) Out all day and quite quick too
Best looking (IMO) - Orange wheeled GT3 RS
Best drifter - Honda Civic shoowing off along the pit straight. Twisted the front wheels everywhere and it still took the bend, v v impressive
Best plane impersonator - Pauls car (really does sound like a jet in the distance)
Most impressive car(s) - Renault Clio`s - where do they get their grip from with a rear wheel in the air??
Most spectacular - Black Sierra sapphire hunting down the GT3`s
Fastest - The cossie engined Fiesta[]

Wow that's a lot more cars than I thought based on Paul's and Riverside's in-car footage. Especially on a small track and a wet surface! Do you guys run in any sort of order or speed groups? Not from what I could see in Rick's great bunch of photos. I am surprised that there aren't any bumps and bruises with such speed differentials and experience levels. Lot's of mirrors and co-operation I'm guessing. Well done.

It did get a bit manic at times, the last hour being especially crazy. Lots of the cars tended to bunch up which was tricky if you came up behind a group and wanted to get past. In the end I semi ignored some of the rules and passed a couple of cars on the brakes into either the first corner or the back chicane. On one occasion I had to do this to get past an idiot in a latin hot hatch (those that where there know which car I am talking about). Speed differentials can be very scary if you have a GT3RS or Andrew on slicks trying to get past a beat up old 3 series that seemed to be 20 mph slower through the corners.ORIGINAL: 333pg333

Though it was Open pit lane so you can go out when you want, they did have a 20 cars on track limit because they were only using the shorter 2 mile circuit. There were approx 60 cars attending the day so often you had a 5 minute wait at the pit exit until a car came in and the marshalls then let you out. There did seem to be quite a bit of bunching at times but I never had a problem as I always take the first 1 or 2 laps very slowly to acclimatise and also to find a big space in which to have my own fun [8D]
I took my last stint with 45 minutes to go on the clock and my son in the passenger seat noted there were only two other cars on the track at that time. It was pure bliss to have that much space and time to really concentrate and do my best laps of the day. Roll on the next one, which is Bookatrack at Donington 18/3 for me. I am giving fast laps to the Mayor of Northampton who won it as a prize in a charity auction back in November 2005 []
