Great drives

Went for a wonderful drive through The Brecon Beacons last Friday. Other than a few sheep not much around and some amazing roads. You forget what fantastic road cars these are, I highly recommend the A4067 Sennybridge to Ynysen and the A 4059 through Penderyn. Chris Harris wrote an article about driving a white 993RS along some of these roads and he wasn't wrong. Find a spare day when the sun is shining and get out there, life is short!

W H Smith are currently selling a complilation of past articles to do with 911 RSs of all eras from 'GT Purely Porsche' magazine. It is labelled as exclusive to WHS and is entitled 'The Best of the 911 Carrera RS'. The article of which you speak is one of the ones reprinted. At least Chris Harris knows his stuff as an ex-993 RS owner. One of the other (non-Harris) articles had the 993 RS with a 3.6 litre engine! You think they might have corrected this on printing this stuff for a second time.

Talking of bloopers, whilst I was in WHS I settled back in my deck chair also to read the 993 GT2 v 993RS article in the current '911 & Porsche World' magazine. From a quick read I noted the usual 'facts':

993RS Clubsport rear wing is the same as on the GT2 says the article - no it isn't

article says RS windscreen is of thinner glass than normal Carrera - my understanding is that the windscreen is standard thickness and it is the other glass that is thinner

only 47 of 993RS produced were in RHD says the article - given the HK and Australian cars that were recently mentioned on this forum I thought that it was maybe 47 RHD to the UK and not 47 worldwide?

At this point I was thrown out of WHS for attacking the magazines with my red editing crayon.....

Coincidence or telepathic?

Almost verbatim comments i emailed to my Pal who works on magazine and did anarticle earlier this year on my 993 GT2 ..............cud hardly believe the stupidity thought i d pick up GT PP by mistake !

I wrote to GT & PP them years ago telling them that the 47 RHD drive number was wrong, it's the number that came to the UK (do we know that for sure Mr Howells?). I know 9 went to Hong Kong, 3 to Singapore plus S Africa, Australia and a few to Japan but these were a different, softer spec I believe with rear seat etc. So in all probably 70-80 RHD.

Windscreen is the same, it's the other glass that is thinner.

Also Mike, some of the cs model ,Antipodean cars 'inherited' their cages almost aftermarket with bolts !!! trying to say fitted loaclly and not fac welded.............

Always amazed at how well these mags sell when they cover the RS. Incredible that the economics of producing a special RS supplement works. Must be a large number of aspiring owners out there!

Dont believe all that you read !! 47 uk cars for sure,i still have the list.
Most of the mags get facts wrong, journos are not into fact and detail, its us sad ones that are!

Sounds like Chris Harris may be back on the market seeing as Drivers Republic has closed down. Be good to see him writing for one of the Porsche magazines again. His column was the only reason I used to buy GT and Purely Porsche.
