Great driving roads

Just back from a fab gastro weekend in Ludlow (try Hibiscus Restuarant-superb!)

I have had four new Michelin Pilot MXX3 N2s on order for over a months now and the front two arrived in time for the trip. What a difference! Cant wait for the rears!

The route from Somerset is straight forward but I decided to go the scenic route having read how good the roads over the Brecon Beacons are to drive, This was my first substantive trip in the SC and it was a brilliant drive. Car didnt miss a beat and we had a great dice with a 68 "E" Type at one stage. My route included Newport-Abergavenny-Builth Wells (which was the best bit!) and on to Ludlow via Knighton. Shame about the deluge which soaked us for 3 hours today on the return!

This got me thinking about "great roads". Having moved to Somerset 3 years ago, I might be biased but aside from the Brecon route how about these suggested SC drives
  • The B3223 from Lynmouth over Exmoor to Simonsbath
  • Cheddar Gorge followed by a blast over the Mendips and back down via the B3134 to Burrington (3 miles from me thank goodness!)
  • and near to where I used to live, the winding road that links Well to Odiham in Hampshire
Any other suggestions?
