Great forum!

Just like to say that this 944 forum is buzzing with activity compared to the other models.
Seems that the 944 has a big follwing at present.

Top stuff!

Ours break more :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Glad you're on board and enjoying it, there will be a huge spat in a few weeks time just to balance things out a bit [;)]

You should see us when we get going, Paul. It can be both busy and heated sometimes. [&:]

Thanks for the comments though. We take a lot of flak for trying to achieve a forum that's helpful and friendly without descending into the bullying and ganging-up that is too common with the interweb. The reason it's so active is partly the number of members - over 1000 944 members in the Club. This forum has at least as many non-members contributing as well. There's a genuine cameraderie around the front-engined models, and most of the events over a year see a good turnout of 24/44/68 owners happy to welcome new owners.

Or, as Smithy said, it could be because we're always asking how to fix something....[&o]

[FONT=Arial"][FONT=verdana, geneva"]Always something going on here. I think the reason it's more active is that the 944 is more 'financially' available to the younger generation and hence more pc literate (I push the average age up a little[;)]) You will be surprised that a vast majority of members never use this forum.

I tend to be a passive user and absorb the tech tips, chuckle at some of the comments or just stand back and wince when someone lights the touch paper, but it soon settles down again. Enjoy.

Its certainly a refreshing change to the more sedate 3.2 forum.

It could be that they breakdown more, or it could be that they get used more !!

One of the things I like about this forum is that the users are more mature! I use, and have used, various other fora for various other models and it've very apparent on most of them that a large proportion of the posters have limited life experience.

The other thing I like here, and have really come to appreciate recently after spending some time on TIPEC, is that a large number of people here know what they are talking about. I'm not knocking TIPEC by saying that, but I suspect that many of you who visit there regularly will agree that the depth of knowledge there is just not comparable to here, evidenced by the length of time questions regularly remain unanswered and still moreso the lack of certainty or even outright misinformation that is sometimes provided. Hopefully it will improve over time and I wouldn't want to discourage anyone here from signing up there as well.

It will probably be a couple of weeks until it kicks off on here again as it happened not so long ago and it comes around monthly or thereabouts. Maybe next time it won't be somebody taking exception to something I have said, but statistically that's usually the cause.

I'm probably one of the youngest on here, and therefore like to bring the average age (and level of conversation) down a fair chunk.

So, there ... I've just taken exception to something Fen said. Let the flame wars begin!

I'll be sure to invite you to my 21st birthday party ... (cabs-'ome-to-sarf'-the-equator-difficul'-at-this-tahm-o'-naht-guv notwithstanding ... )

A forum is only as good as the people who contribute and its method of operation. The success of this forum is very much down to you guys.

That said, we do have some advantage in that the virtual world of this forum does overlap with real life. Real people are posting - we know this because we get to meet up at events in the real world.

Much of what happens here helps to increase the enjoyment of the Real Life events and visa versa. Keep up the good work and don't be shy about turning up in the flesh when the opportunity arises.

Let us know when an event arises then John. I only live around the corner from you in Ashingdon and if you don't mind i could tag along with you.

Paul

You would be very welcome Paul.

The next big event will be the Club Stand and Evolution of the 911 Display at the NEC Autosport Show at the end of this week.

After that there is a R11 (Essex) meeting on the second Tuesday of every month at Essex Regiment way Chelmsford. Most of the local events are arranged as a result of this meeting with many 944 specific events coming about through this forum.

Get signed up as a member and you will get a monthy magazine noting all Club events throughout the country. If you take advantage of the members discounts I would be surprised if you didn't recover your membership+ more every year.

I agree, this forum is great! I've learnt a lot of very useful things reading this forum, and will be asking a lot more questions soon when I get my S2 in the garage for its long overdue overhaul/super service/MOT prep.

I'm thinking about starting a BIG argument about nitrous[;)][;)][8|]

But seriously, I met a group of TIPEC owners at a big Kent classic car show the other year and went over to them expecting to get loads of advice from seasoned spanner wielders and what did I get? :- "take your car to this garage- they do great work".
NONE of them worked on their own cars even to the limited extent I have on my S2 and none would even consider carrying out welding or paintwork on their own cars.

I was quite taken a back and decided not to think about joining the TIPEC.

Couldn't agree more, I've saved a fortune in the last year on parts alone (enough to pay for quite a few years worth of subscriptions [:)]).

This is a gr8 forum.... If it wasnt for you lads Id be lost in a sea of misinformation. My car is getting a lot more use since I started posting here....This is the definative forum in my opinion. No question is too trivial..... The *mods 2 Pauls and John do a brilliant job of keeping the forum tidy and us all informed. [;)]

I was in PCI but I got no benefit off my membership. Nuff said. Since I became a PCGB member I too have got loads of discounts. Our OPC Agnews honour the PCGB discount which is a great help....

*mods as in Moderators not them Vespa riding Goths [:D][:D]

Every region's different, just like with PCGB. The clubs are the other way around in my neck of the woods""TIPEC has lots of home mechanics whilst the PCGB guys have lots of new cars still under warranty.

My insurance company discounted my premium by about £20 last year for being club members, and my wife and I took the car to Silverstone Classic for something like £35 for the weekend - the normal price was at least £45 per person. The downside is that my wife has spent the money we saved in the club shop. And then some [:(]
