Great route for driving thru Mid Wales

In April, myself and a very good friend of mine (and one time rally driver) took a couple of days off for a blast thru Mid Wales to give the 997 some stick over the Brecon Beacons. The roads are fantastic, and quite challenging too. He has written it up with a detail of the route: http://www.tovey.org/funinwales.html. I told him his talents are wasted, and he should he give up his job, and take up travel/motoring journalism instead! PS. if you're going to have a somewhat flambouyant puncture in a 997cab, try not to do it in the middle of nowhere... replacement tyres are not easy to find....

Looks like a great route. I have driven through mid Wales several times and the roads just keep getting better and better. The scenery is simply stunning and the roads beautiful.

Sounds like you had a good trip and interesting experience with the spare (or lack of it!).

Yes, it was a lot of fun. Roads were great, scenery brilliant. Surprising just how much you can cram into 48hrs! Must also say that the 997 is such an all-round car. You can throw it around the corners, or use it as a tourer, chug thru city traffic, or track it. I can't see any AM, Ferrari etc or similar, doing all those (and it's got two seats in the back!).

I don't know how the puncture came about, but it was lucky that i'd just finished a stretch of "enthusiastic" driving, and i think it happened when i pulled over for someone. It was a huge split in the side of the tyre. Ivor the driver (as we called him) was terrific, and the lady at the garage managed to locate the only michelin PS within 100 miles (otherwise it was the nearest OPC... in Cardiff !). Incindentally, i now realise that the tracker is only activated when the car is locked.
