New guy here considering buying a Boxster for his wife. I can probably afford a 2007 auto 2.7, and just wondering if there are any particular year or type of vehicles to watch out for? And do any of them suffer with major engine problems?

sorry this seems like a bit of a trolololol, if it isnt hello.............. good car and a hell of a fun puts a smile on my face everytime time i drive it never had any problems with it

I was beginning to think that I had stumbled into some strange parallel existence where people had no opinions![:D] I have now looked up trololololol, and am suitably informed[&:]
My wife tried an auto 2.7 yesterday, and really enjoyed it. And she is testing a 2.7s today.[:D]

I am sure she will enjoy that too but do you mean a 3.4 S??

I noticed a big difference and have only had the S since

But for everyday use the 2.7 may be fine

Good luck and enjoy trying !!

If you Google "Porsche RMS IMS D-chunk" you'll find plenty of hits which could put you off Porsche ownership for life.!

However, much of this is overplayed and by 2007 Porsche had addressed many of the issues and by MY 2009 had introduced a new core engine design which is now being used across the whole range of flat-6 engined cars. But it's important to be aware of possible pitfalls to Boxster ownership and there are plenty of well-looked-after cars out there, so don't accept second best. As always a full service history is essential - either Porsche or reputable specialist - and condition/mileage is paramount. Unless it's a Porsche extended warranty, or similar, many dealer warranties are unlikely to cover some of the worst things that could happen, but that applies to any non-Porsche cars too. The Boxster's a very well-built car and generally very robust and reliable but it's a complex car and there can always be niggling problems: the hood mechanism perhaps; front radiator vulnerability. I'd advise getting an independent inspection before purchase if you're not buying from a Porsche Centre or reputable Indy.

For your wife the 2.7 will be fine (she probably just likes tootling around with the top down at lowish speeds to avoid "air hair"!). The 3.2S has more power and torque and, if you're a spirited driver, will appeal more.

Good luck with your search and I hope that you find a great car.

hi sorry for calling you a trololol, i've had my s for a year now alright havent done many miles about 5000 in it but it hasnt missed a beat and never caused me any bother, never driven a 2.7 so don't know much about them

Have seen a nice late 2.7 auto today, with sat nav, a hard top, and the all important heated seats. The sale guy (non-porsche) was trying to put my mind at rest over major engine problems by saying that his warranty covers everything, and is just as good as a Porsche warranty. Obviously I have my doubts over this, but the car is almost immaculate, very well specced, and low mileage. I think I can hear my wallet trying to do a runner!

Go for it, so long as you are happy it checks out OK - you're here for a good time, not a long time! Roof down, sun shining, you are unlikely to regret choosing what is almost certainly one of the world's greatest sportscars.

I brought my first Boxster (it was second hand from a dealer) with no idea of the early problem relating to the rear main seal and intermediate shaft etc etc. After purchace I discovered these on line but I have to say no problems with either car apart from failed Bluetooth on the current CRD30 - new unit on the extended warrenty. The best car I have owned and driven bar none. Use it every day and has made my drive to work a great enjoyment!
Buy one!
