Afternoon all, My name is Simon, I purchased a 2003 Boxster 2.7 on Saturday and collect it next Friday and wanted to ask a few questions please.

The car is a facelift 2.7 badged as an "S"......... I notice that she has 18" GT3 alloys and red brake calipres ........... are these standard or an optional extra....?

Also, the roll hoops are colour coded to the leather interior and again I wonder if that was a standard feature...?

Can't wait to pick her up.... she's Black with savannah interior, 70k on clock with full stamped history, 6 months comprehensive warranty and a full years MoT.

Happy days indeed.

Looking forward to being a part of this forum.

Hello and welcome!

It is hard to beat the feeling of excitement when you are waiting for a new car.

The Boxster is a fabulous sports car and I hope you really enjoy it.

Without wishing to set any alarm bells ringing, and, of course, it's a matter for you how much you are prepared to pay for peace of mind, many people buying their first Porsche choose to get an independent inspection carried out before purchase to avoid any unforeseen problems. I didn't, I was too excited but a modest fee can save a big bill.

If you are happy with the dealer you are buying from and the quality of the warranty you are receiving then you may not need to but you need to be alert to the fact that the car is starting to get on a bit and some warranties are not worth the paper they are written on. Front radiators are vulnerable to corrosion, as are brake discs (both from the rear where you can't easily see it) etc.

Red brake calipers were standard on the S but so was a 3.2 litre engine so you have a misbadged car by the sound of things. The calipers could have been painted on the one you are buying or upgraded. Porsche offered lots of wheel options and I have certainly seen Boxsters of that generation with GT3 style wheels. I can't help you with the roll over hoops I'm afraid. I think they are typically black but there is a leather option?

If you post a link to the advert for it, someone more knowledgeable than me may be able to offer you a few pointers.

Best of luck, you will like driving it.

Cheers for the welcome guys, much appreciated...... I have to say that I am more than happy with the dealer and the car, aswell as the
warranty being offered, however, I do wish to treat her with the respect the badge deserves and so intend to have her checked over for piece
of mind too.

Looking through various sources of info on the net it appears that my car comes with many optional extras, however, would love to know
where the cd changer is........... she has a CR22 system.

Really looking forward to stretching her legs soon.

Regards.

Si.

The CD Changer if one was specified will be in the front boot on the right as you look from the front of the car. It has a removable magazine. There should also be a single CD slot in the head unit.

CR22 was a cassette radio
CDR22 has the single slot CD (and no cassette)

Either may or may not have a CD changer - in the front boot as described above.

Thanks for the info, just spoken to dealer, he's going to call me back, incidentally, there are 4 or 5 cd storage cases below the stereo console...............

Congrats Simon on your new purchase! Whilst I'm used to driving newer Porsche machinery myself I picked up a 2002 S last year with a whopping 112k miles on it. 116k miles now, it still feels fresh as a daisy and last week on a drive home from Manchester I arrived home buzzing from a fantastic rather spirited drive. You have the same to look forward to.

As said by others, make sure your warranty is worthy. Another tip given the age/mileage is to change your oil a bit more frequently if you can to keep on top of the maintenance.

I expect the roll-hoops were painted as a factory option OR painted later. Check the option codes. My CD changer in the boot has a mind of it's own, decides when to play CDs!

And one last thing - remove the S badge to keep it honest [:)] Whoever had it previously must have been inadequate [:)]

Cheers,
Simon

The only Porsche option on the roll bar was to paint it in the body colour, not the interior. Suspect a previous owner has done that.

18" GT3 split rims were certainly an option.

Skoosh

I bought a 03 53 2.7 in late October and had service history but still required a mountain of work with many of the things done to date all very common on the 986.

Things to check, coil packs, condensers, discs on rear face, exhaust back box splitting on seam, manifold to cat connection, heat shields, suspension arms/trailing arms, alignment, bottom of doors for damp

Mine had all these with a few other things I have done, new sender unit, drop links, sway bar bushes, oil and filter and aux belt with bits and pieces on cosmetics and general refresh.

Mines a different car and cost circa £1k and a lot of hard work to get to a good standard, don't be put off they are fairly simple to work on and real pleasure to own

Guys, many many thanks for the positive feedback and very valuable information offered. I have owned many of the usual classic cars over the years, some more desirable than others I dare say
but each had it's own merit, but, I must say that the knowledge that I will own a Boxster this time next week fills me with much joy, can't wait to get her out on some tasty B-roads and experience the
legendary Boxster handling for myself.

I look forward to being a part of this forum, digesting the info and getting to know the people on it and my new car........!!

Regards.

Si.
