Ground Clearance

New member
A mate of mine is looking for some advice, can anyone help?

He has a 996 4S Cab, and he wants to use the French Autorail service to go on holiday. They have refused to take the car, as it has only 8.5cm of ground clearance, and they insist on a minimum of 10cm. []

Any bright ideas?

Thanks

John H

Is that a tahoe blue 964 you have now John?

Nice car with biplane spoiler.

Tell your friend to drive the damn thing down South or he can fly out and I will drive it out for him!

Indeed, Tahoe Blue 964 is my latest toy. I'm not convinced about the spoiler, and might put the original one back (if I can find one)

I rather think my friend was hoping for a more technical solution [&:], but I suppose it serves me right for asking such a question [8D].

Any other takers?

Might sound daft but.... could he tell them its a different type of 911 with higher ground clearence? im shure they probably wont know the difference. However in saying that there's probably a good reason why, like you could be saying goodbye to your front bumper! Sorry im not of much use but thats all i can think off

Andy ... downright devious twisted thinking ... I like that in a chap! [:D][:D][;)]

I'll pass on your suggestion [;)]

John,
I would advise your friend to take care!
I've used the Motor Rail on several occasions, both car and motorbike and they don't mess around. The bikes are strapped down so tightly the forkseals usually give up! whilst I think for the cars they use a mechanical "Chocking" devise and I think this is were the ground clearance is important.
He may find that if the chocks won't fit under the car, he will be refused and may struggle for a refund.

Hope this helps

John

John,

Sound advice, thanks, and I'm passing all of this on to him (he is neither a PCGB member, nor terribly web literate [8D])

John,

That must be a hell of a good paper round you have got at the weekends to go from a 924 to a 964 just like that! Can't have been a couple of months since you got the 924!

Good choice. Must have a closer look sometime.

Charles
